• Observed and assisted transplant surgeons in organ procurement surgeries in several states of the country with exposure to procurement surgeries including selections of the donor based on certain criteria and ethical considerations of the job.
• Involved in postoperative care with the paramount aim of evaluating the patient status & specific care needs with the aim of achieving standardized healing outcomes.
• To better understand the patient evaluations and the processes regarding obtaining the approval for transplantation, attended the Medical Review Board meetings.
• This observership helped me learn about transplant surgery and the effort being made by the team to try and change a patient’s life.

• I appreciated the concept of continuity of care & the consequences of patient enlightenment more vividly during the inpatient rounds with Dr. Baskaran & Dr. Adnan.
• ’Attending with Dr. Baskaran during the patient rounds in the Hematology & Oncology Unit, I was able to identify some of the necessary approaches towards the development of a care plan for hematologic malignancies.
• Furthermore, working on research projects using Nationwide data from HCUP helped us to study the disparities in hospital visits & resource utilization. These projects will help in making efforts aimed at improving access to healthcare and endorsing sex-sensitive healthcare delivery.

Shadowed Dr. Sai in the Intensive Care Unit, at his office hours and doing rounds in UF Shands Hospital.
I noticed how with Dr. Sai Chintalapati, the specificity of his approach and the way he speaks to his patients is powerful.
During patient rounds, I also tried to adopt this approach, improve my way of relaying information, and give assurance.
Due to the increased rate of antibiotic resistance, he specifically insisted me regarding the importance of Interpersonal communication to ensure the patient’s understanding of changes in their further care process during the patient discussions.
Got an opportunity to learn from cases related to concerns regarding postoperative infection complications among patients who underwent abdominal and thoracic transplant surgeries.
Participated with Dr. Sai in patient rounds during his services at North Tower, South Tower, Medical Plaza and East Tower of UF Shands Hospital.
Got an opportunity to interact with patients’ septic arthritis, fungal infections and many victims of severe bacterial infections.

Using WikEM as a learning tool, I got an opportunity to enhance my understanding of trauma management by observing the care of patients with multi-comminuted fractures and animal bites, gaining insights into the complexities of emergency surgical interventions.
Participated in the care of stroke patients, where I learned the importance of time-sensitive interventions and the coordination of multidisciplinary teams in achieving optimal outcomes.
Observed the integration of advanced diagnostic tools, such as imaging and lab tests, in the rapid evaluation of emergency patients, broadening my technical knowledge in acute care.
