Here are some products you can use to clean
pennies:
Vinegar and salt
Mix one cup of white vinegar with one tablespoon
of salt in a jar. Stir until the salt dissolves. Soak the
pennies in the solution for 15 minutes. Then, remove
the pennies and wipe them with a cloth or paper
towel. 2
Ketchup
Apply a small amount of ketchup to the penny and
rub it with a cloth or toothbrush for a few minutes.
Rinse the penny with water and dry it off with a
towel. The vinegar and tomato acid in ketchup can
dissolve copper oxide. @
Lemon Juice
Add citric acid from lemon juice to the pennies. The
chemical reaction will result in copper citrate and
water, which can be wiped off the pennies. @
Isopropyl alcohol and salt
Soak the pennies in isopropyl alcohol and salt. The
coarse and acidic ingredients are effective at
targeting built-up dirt. 2
Soap and water
Wash the pennies with soap and water, and then dry
them thoroughly to prevent rusting.
