Duties as a Critical Care Unit Nurse

Maintaining patient safety by administering medications quickly and correctly, closely monitoring lab results, vital signs, intake/output, blood glucose levels, and any physical or mental status changes. Notifying the physician and/or interdisciplinary team when appropriate.

Promoting patient independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching the patient, and the family to understand conditions, medications, self-care skills, and discharge instructions.

Maintaining continuity of care among nursing teams by accurately documenting and communicating nursing actions, physical assessments, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Establishing a compassionate healing environment by providing continued patient respect and dignity while maintaining close family communication when appropriate
