Personal Reflection
I have always believed that a career in nursing is sincerely a calling in life. It is the expertise of healing in
combination with compassion and clinical knowledge. Nursing is simply a unique profession with the
possibilities to manifest priceless rewards in countless ways. Since I was young, I have always wanted a
career in health care. I was pre-med during my first undergraduate experience. I soon realized that there
was more to give. After working with a group of wonderful nurses as a transporter and imaging tech
assistant in a hospital, I soon realized that the compassion in this career had exceeded what I could do as a
physician. I had also witness the great care provided by the nursing staff that cared for my own father for
27 years in a nursing home. I knew that I also wanted to provide that same type of compassion and care
for others. I have put my own experience, knowledge and skills into helping others. There is a vast need
for mid-level providers in the medical arena today. The opportunities are endless. Such as scientific
research, legal involvement, education, leadership and more. As a nurse my skills can be utilized in more
than one area and can develop over time. I have realized that there is more to being a nurse, as an Adult
Geriatric Nurse Practitioner I will be able to expand my skills to help even more. Pursuing a higher
education is the only way to become a better practitioner. Working through the trenches as a transporter, a
medical imaging tech assistant, nurse extern, and currently as an ICU nurse am prepared for a greater
journey as an AG-ACNP.
