PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

SUMMARY

After graduating from Benjamin Franklin University and receiving a CPA certificate from Maryland I spent over 8 years in public accounting with a wide & diversified range of experience including auditing public companies, tax return preparation forboth individuals and business. Also I had significant involvement in hiring staff as well as performing management advisory services and computer auditing.

Following public accounting I worked with computer software entities and real estate management companies as well as teaching real estate accounting to property managers for BOMA. This was followed by the detailed experience listed below which includes not only Real Estate and Software related experience but also construction and country club experience. Throughout all of my experience I was typically involved in Human Resource and payroll management including employee search, management, and hiring. In addition I have significant experience in selection of accounting software systems for many of my employers.

Currently I am Remodeling our 1927 historic SEARS Victorian home (2017-2018)

Temporarily taking time away from outside employment to work on the major renovation to our home in Kilmarnock Virginia. Major tasks included reinforcing foundation, bringing electric system up to current code, refinishing walls and ceilings, removing all exterior paint and repainting the entire structure. I gained significant construction knowledge from my father and grandfather as well as from several of my employers.

Country Club – Northern Neck of Virginia - (2015-2016)

Controller for Indian Creek Golf and Country Club. The club provides golf, tennis, marina, and multiple food and entertainment facilities. Worked closely with the club manager and the finance committee to revise accounting and operating procedures including selection of new club software. My responsibilities included financial reporting, human resources and preparation of 990 tax returns.

Real Estate/Multi-faceted Entity – Southland, Wilmington, NC – (2013- 2015)

CFO for a variety of entities of a single owner entrepreneur. Businesses included real estate development, real estate management, amusements, ATM services, and gaming operations in the Virgin Islands.. Built a team of accountants, and migrated to a new accounting system. Implemented internal controls, as well as developed written processes and procedures. Worked with the owner on new investments and ventures, and managing cash flow.

Software Development Company – MAPCOM Richmond Virginia (2009 – 2013)

Controller for a computer software company providing software for the telecommunications industry. In charge of all accounting, finance, insurance, human resources of a small rapidly growing firm. Worked with the management team to grow from 4 to 10 million in sales. Migrated the accounting system onto QuickBooks Professional, and implemented a variety of Human Resource and administrative processes and procedures.

Consulting - Kilmarnock, Virginia (2008 – 2009)

Variety of assignments for George S. May (an international consulting firm), and Spivey Consulting, for clients throughout the US. Worked with various clients for a variety of time frames, (HVAC Contractor, Soft Drink Distributor, Gift Manufacturer / Distributor, Engineering / Surveying Contractor, and others). Consulting work included, contract controller, income and expense analysis, and management organization studies.

Donahue Properties, LLC – Kilmarnock, Virginia (2006 to 2008)

Donahue Properties is a multi-company conglomerate of small businesses and real estate holdings. As CFO I was in charge of all aspects of financing, including lines of credit and long term financing. Worked with the owner to prepare budget projections and developed lease and realtor commission tracking.

The Classic Group, Inc – Williamsburg, Virginia (2001 to 2006)

Vice President of Operations for a Williamsburg area remodeling / painting firm.

I was responsible for all areas of accounting, financing, IT, and human resources. Worked

with the management team to grow this multi-entity from 2 to 6 million in sales. Coordinated

with the remodeling companies franchisor, and developed job costing processes and procedures.

Was responsible for risk management and insurance, as well as leasing and purchasing vehicles

and implemented a truck tracking system along with job management and controls.

W.C. & A.N. Miller Development Company – Washington DC (1997-2001)

Miller is a multi-faceted real estate company operating in the Washington Metro Area.

I started at Miller as a consultant to implement a new accounting system, and was offered the

position of VP of the newly formed Shared Services Division. Shared services provided support

to all the operating divisions of the company;

Realtor Sales - five offices with over 200 agents

Home Construction - construction of luxury homes (1 mil plus)

Commercial Construction - commercial office and retail buildings

Property Management - residential apartments & commercial buildings

Working with the management team we established a shared service structure to provide

Accounting, Human Resources, IT, and Marketing to the individual operating divisions.

After graduating from Benjamin Franklin University I spent over eight years in public accounting with M.B. Hariton & Company in Washington, D.C. Hariton was a large regional CPA firm specializing in the real estate, banking and retail industries. It merged into one of the Big Eight in the late 1980’s.
