• NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Pasadena, CA 1997 - 2005
Technical Coordinator / Enterprise Improvement Facilitator Significantly contributed to formal and informal teams defining & managing processes, and designing targeted communication efforts for special initiatives.
o Coordinated documentation efforts to achieve ISO 9000-2000 certification, CMMI compliance. Facilitated, motivated and coached system engineering line managers, engineers and other professionals. Facilitated new process documentation sets (34 systems engineering and scientific processes and 45 enabling services processes). Tracked milestones. Result: A 7-year effort was completed and certifications achieved.
o Ensured creation of appropriate documentation including policies, procedures, desk instructions/local procedures; Support Materials: guidance, reference material, handbooks, etc., and process and position descriptions. Created training materials and presented workshops on Documentation Made Easy, appropriate use of templates, etc. for mid-level managers, engineers, and support personnel. Created and edited technical documentation for content and formatting (400+ documents over 5 years) for design, manufacturing and business processes. Result: Processes for development of new products (spacecraft and software) are identified, base-lined, and documented; methodology is in place for ensuring continual process improvement. Process Owners and managers, and all process users are trained and held to documented standards.
o Contributed to and implemented a user friendly, web-based documentation system. IT development team: Conceptualized, developed and delivered user friendly, graphical interfaces and help pages for new web based documentation system. Planned and implemented enterprise-wide rollout campaign for a new institutional computer system for accessing and storing process documentation. Coordinated Help Line and Feedback/Response programs. Result: A state-of-the-art documentation repository is in place and managed, along with a method for creating and maintaining official process documentation sets into the future.
