Estimator / Project Manager

HBS Drywall, LLC. 6/2010 - 8/2011

At HBS Drywall I was hired to develop the commercial side of the company. My duties included finding bidding opportunities, estimating, contract negotiation, material buyouts, delivery scheduling and inventory controls. Scheduling of labor. Price out and track change orders. Complete and track RFI’s. Track the progress of jobs. Plan for all phases of the project. Oversee safety and ensure all employees attend the weekly safety meetings. Submit the monthly billing. Complete close out documents. Due to the lack of commercial work, the competition and the small margins the owners decided to stop pursuing commercial work and stay with residential construction.

At Turner Wall Systems my duties included the estimating of commercial work from the Florida Keys to New York. Contract negotiation. Material buyouts, delivery scheduling and inventory controls. Due to the slowdown in construction in Florida, I found that I was unable to compete with the larger companies and decided to close On Center Drywall and take some personal time with my kids.

I founded On center Drywall, Inc. in May 2003. As Owner/President I was responsible for all daily operations, including but not limited to estimating, project management and contract negotiation, as well as office administration. With my contacts, I was able to secure $ 190,000 in contracts my first year. I increased my contracts in 2004 to $ 500,000. and in 2007 successfully completed over $ 1,400,000 in contracts.

All American Drywall, Inc., 1/1993 - 5/2003

All American Drywall, Inc. was owned by my mother and stepfather. I was hired and trained to handle all of the estimating and help with the project management. I was instrumental in transforming the company from a small remodel venture, with $250,000 in annual contracts in 1993, to being awarded larger commercial projects with $2,500,000 in annual contracts by 2001. My duties included estimating, project management and contract negotiation. I was solely responsible for contractor relations and development. I was also responsible for hiring all field positions and overseeing their work. By 2001, we had more than 50 employees and sub-contractors ranging from North Carolina to Naples, Fl. I managed every project simultaneously, from creating the bid all the way through to end of warranty. I would still be with this company today if it were not for the untimely death of my mother (the majority owner) in the fall of 2001. It was a short time after that my step-father decided to liquidate and retire.

Several office buildings, retail stores and medical offices for Dooley and Mack, Charles Wilson, and WG Mills to name a few.

Several hotels including, Tampa Hilton Gardens, Tampa & Sarasota Residence Inns and Sarasota Springhill suites.

Along with other hotels in Charlotte County, Alabama and South Carolina, we averaged 3 hotels a year.

The Old Hickory House 1987 to 1993

I returned to The Old Hickory House with the hope of buying out the owners when they retired. They ended up holding on the the restaurant for 10 more years. I had an opportunity to start a new carrier in construction and took it.

Line Cook

306 Bomb Group 1986 to 1987

I worked for the 306 Bomb Group theme restaurant at the airport as a line cook. My daily duties were to prep for the evening meals, set up the cook line in the dinning room and work in the dinning room cook line.

The Copperfield Inn 1986

I worked for 6 months at The Copperfield Inn in the Meadows. The Copperfield was a private club that only sat by reservations We were usually done by 9 PM. The summer business was slow and some nights we only did 6 dinners. I changes jobs out of boredom.

The Rain Forest Restaurant 1984 to 1986

I was hired as a line cook and and work my way up to assistant chef. My duties included ordering supplies, planning special menu items, planning parties and weddings, planning Sunday Brunch and running the kitchen when the head chef was off duty.

Night Cook

Off Shore Food Service 1983 to 1984

I worked off shore on an oil rig as the night cook. I was in charge of the kitchen at night including finishing the dinner meal, planning and preparing the might night meal and starting breakfast. I was also in charge of all pastries and deserts and all breads for both shifts.

Line Cook

The Old Hickory House 1981 to 1983

I worked for the Old Hickory House in Sarasota as a line cook. I also learned to clean and cut beef for steaks, make large quantities of BBQ sauce, house and blue cheese salad dressings and many different cold salads.

Burger Inn 1979 to 1981

I worked for a small fast food restaurant called Burger Inn out of Atlanta. After 6 months I was the store manager. In 1981 they pulled out of Florida.

I had lived in Florida for the past 40 years. I grew up mostly on the west coast in the Manatee / Sarasota county area. I attended Manatee and Sarasota High schools. I worked in construction for 2 years after high school. In 1983 I changed to restaurant work starting as a line cook and working my way up to restaurant manager. In 1993 I went to work for All American Drywall, a family company. Not long after the death of my mother, I left to start On Center Drywall, Inc.
