●MATSE 493/ME 440(Substitution) [Senior Capstone]

Senior Capstone is a course in which a small group of students work on a project for a sponsor. Project groups are responsible for organizing, researching, time management, and meeting the goals set by their sponsor and course respectively. Current and past projects are accessible at lf.psu.edu.

●MATSE 468- Ceramics Lab [Senior Processing Lab]

MATSE 468 is a course in a laboratory setting, in which students learn various methods of processing, characterizing, and sintering ceramic materials.

This course is coupled with its sister course, MATSE 411 (Processing of Ceramics). Students apply the techniques learned in MATSE 411 in the laboratory in MATSE 468, and from both acquire a comprehensive knowledge of ceramic material processing.

●MATSE 492- Materials Design

MATSE 492 is a course in which a small group of students work together to develop a novel solution to address one of the National Academy for Engineering’s 14 Grand Challenges for Engineering in the 21st Century.

This course teaches participants how to both lead and follow. Students in the course are expected to give presentations to both other students and various experts in industry, providing skills required for effective teamwork and leadership.
