Emergency Room Technician (2017-2019) [Full time, now prn]
Job Duties- Insert and remove IV’s · Collect blood, urine, saliva and stool samples for laboratory analysis · Perform laboratory diagnostic testing · Perform 12-lead EKG’s, Perform CPR and post-mortem care · Clean and prep wounds for suture/bandaging. · Fit patients for crutches, slings and other devices as needed · Provide instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures · Assist with the safe movement of patients, such as from hospital bed to wheelchair, when necessary. Additional duties include: · Prepare patient rooms by sanitizing rooms, beds and chairs after each use · Stock exam rooms prior to end of shift with linens and supplies · Discard linens and trash in the appropriate container · Discard laboratory specimens in appropriate biohazard waste containers · File and inventory as needed. Take vital signs, perform bladder scans, glucose blood testing, applying splints to broken extremities, applying care to burn patients, and also assisting with combative psychiatric patients. Also taking temperature via thermoscans and oral as well as rectal. Charting patient information and hospitalizing patients as well is a big part of my job. I also collect stool specimens, urine specimens, blood specimens with a straight stick and a butterfly needle, regular blood and bacterial blood cultures. I also stock oxygen canisters and administer oxygen to patients with shortness of breath. I also send EKG tracing reports to Cardiologists upstairs via 12-lead EKG machine and perform diagnostics on the EKG machine. I also am the first one to respond directly to chest pain, as I take the patient into the room, take off their shirt, perform their ekg, take their vital signs and temperature, put them on a 5-lead, draw their blood and glucose if needed, and administer oxygen if needed.
Radiology Tech Assistant (2017-Present [Weekends])
Job Duties- Assist X-ray techs and ct techs with various radiological procedures. I answer phone calls, move xrays machines and assist with patient positioning for X-rays and ct scans, chart patient information, stock and clean rooms, make X-ray contrast as well as ct contrast, run X-ray film, create X-ray and ct CD’s for physicians and nurses, edit X-ray and ct scans with annotations on the scan, send xrays and ct scans to radiologist for report via Vitrea, patient transport, moving patients on the stretcher and onto the ct tables and X-ray tables, placing X-ray boards beneath patient extremities for X-ray pictures, order X-ray supplies, take vital signs in the emergency room and ICU, utilizing telemetry monitors, placing 5-lead EKG’s on patients who get MRI’s and CT HEART SCANS, and lift patients with special equipment and special wheelchairs. Also administer oxygen to patients, and I warm up the CT machine #1 and #2. I also am the exact first person to respond directly to a code stroke, as patients who present to our emergency department with a possible stroke or TIA MUST be transported to the CT Scan immediately for a scan of the brain to rule out stroke.
