Projects

Effects of Embedded Voids on the Fracture Strength of CFRP (Master thesis)

Studied XFEM method for crack propagation and its implementation in Abaqus.

Implemented XFEM for Bulk Epoxy with initial crack. Conducted XFEM analysis for different values of “Damage Initiation” values and observed crack propagation path.

Potted Force vs Displacement curves for each case and examined the effect of “Damage Initiation” value.

Carried out crack propagation study on carbon epoxy composite using XFEM in Abaqus.

Examined crack initiation and propagation in unit cell of CFRP with void and unit cell without void. Plotted Stress vs Strain curves for both cases and compared the results.

Finite element analysis of Fracture specimen using Abaqus

Carried out Finite element analysis of standard fracture specimen (compact tension Mode I) using principle, of Linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM). Small elements are used near crack tip. All the elements at the crack tip have same coordinates and they tied together by imposed constraint condition.

The stress intensity factor is calculated from the opening stress and displacement, and same is compared with the solution from handbook formula.

Static and Dynamic analysis of Roll cage

Carried out geometry clean-up, 2D meshing, elements check-up in Hypermesh.

Performed static front impact, side impact, rear impact, dynamic crash analysis using Hypermesh and Radioss. Dynamic analysis of cargo crane using Abaqus/Standard

Carried out Dynamic Analysis of the Cargo Crane using Abaqus/Standard to determine the deflection of the crane when it carried a sudden load.

The analysis helped to identify the critical structures and joints in the structure i.e. those with highest stresses and loads. Aluminium Can Crash test using Abaqus

Performed crash test on aluminium can using Abaqus as solver and post-processor.

Imported geometry in Abaqus and applied constraints, forces, interaction between surfaces. Studied force vs displacement curve.

Sheet metal bending - Abaqus Implicit

Studied metal sheet bending using Abaqus. Plasticity data of metal is used.

Prepared pre-processing model by applying interaction (between punch, die and metal), constraints and meshing. Found out force required for punch to bend the metal sheet. Vibration of thin plates using modal analysis in Abaqus (Modal analysis).

Studied natural frequency and different mode shapes of a thin plate for different boundary conditions (clamped edges, simply supported edges and free edges). Shell elements and solid elements are used for analysis.

Compared results obtained from finite element method with exact solution and this study showed acceptable results. Employment

Thermax Ltd, Executive Engineer, Pune, India Aug 2011 – Jul 2014

Responsibilities include designing Piping and Instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for Thermal power plants which requires details about pipe material, size, valves details, and fluid parameters.

Pressure drop calculations for steam and water lines in AFT for selection of pipe size.

Preparation of Technical specifications of various equipment.

Coordinate with commissioning team and provide site support.

Travel to site if required.

Attain meetings with client, discuss and resolve client’s requirements.

Participate in Process standardization and Improvement projects.

Developed time saving excel spreadsheet using macro for generation of valve schedule. It helped to reduce 15 to 20 days of work in the cycle time of activity.

Worked on various projects to reduce man hours and expedite project.

Experience of working on multiple projects. Adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking. Hobby Projects

RC Quadcopter -Arduino (Ongoing)

Consisted of design and fabrication/modification of RC quadcopter which was made completely using Laser cut parts.

The flight controller was designed in-house by programming an Arduino Mega.

Designed a PID controller using gyroscope and accelerometer to balance the quadcopter. Path follower robot – Arduino

Used DC motors, Arduino, IR sensors and motor controller for this robot. Pick and Place manual robot

Used slider and clamp mechanism.

Robot was able to pick and place balls from one location to another. Award and Recognition

Achiever’s award for developing Excel sheet for preparation of valve schedule which eliminated manual errors and reduced time.
