1) Design and Flow Analysis of Supersonic Nozzle for Plasma Wind Tunnel- The Scope of the work is to design the supersonic nozzle for the Plasma Wind Tunnel (PWT) of Advanced System Laboratory (ASL), DRDO. Operation envelope for the PWT of ASL, DRDO has been found out using the regression equation developed by AEDC (Arnold Engineering Development Center) of USA. The operation will help in choosing a point i.e. combination of operation parameters which are to be used in testing to generate particular enthalpy and heat flux, Mach number at nozzle exit. The Supersonic nozzle design has been carried out using method of characteristics which can be applied for designing the nozzle for the PWT for given Mach Numbers. CFD simulation has been carried out for supersonic nozzle flow with exit Mach number of 3 and flow characteristics studied using commercial software FLUENT. 2) Meshing related Projects:-
FE modeling of Door panel of a car using HYPERMESH - The scope of the project is to build the FE Model with flow-through mesh for crash-analysis of the Door handles clearance plastic. Necessary geometry cleanup done. Identified the features like bolt - holes and slots. One layer of washer-mesh generated around the holes and cut-outs. Remaining areas are meshed using linear quad elements. Less than 5% of tria were used in complex locations. Rotating quads are avoided as per requirements. Quality parameters maintained as per requirements. 2D meshing of Door handles Clearance Plastic of a car using HYPERMESH – The scope of the project is to build the FE Model for stress analysis of the Door handles Clearance Plastic of a car and imported the IGES model and cleaned up the geometry. Prepared washer-surfaces around holes and cut- outs and identified the features, slots & bolt-holes. Generated one-layer of QUAD4 elements around slots & bolt- holes. Remaining areas are meshed using linear quad elements. Only QUAD4 elements are generated for the entire model and checked for free-edges and duplicates. Quality parameters maintained according to client requirements. 3) CFD (Star CCM+) related Projects:-
Comparison of airflow and contaminant distributions in rooms with traditional displacement ventilation and under- floor air distribution systems-
This project involves the Comparison of Traditional Displacement Ventilation systems TDV with Under Floor Air Distribution UFAD systems using four different diffusers in an environmental chamber that can simulate different spaces of the indoor same sizes. The investigation uses a validated CFD simulation to further study the performance of TDV system and UFAD system for an office, a classroom and a workshop of different sizes. 4) Manufacturing of Gas Turbine Blades:-
This project involves how to design a blade and manufacture with the help of different manufacturing methods. Here we use different types of tools to give a perfect shape of blades. Mainly three different types of blades which are High Pressure blade (H.P), Low Pressure blade (L.P), Medium Pressure blade (M.P.) are considered. After finishing of different parts of blades, we connect them into a basic structure into a circular manner which get the required shape of a turbine, after that we fix in the aircraft & testing and analyzing. 5) Study of the Behavior of Carbon- Epoxy Composites using Acoustic Emission:- This project aims the study of the behavior of carbon epoxy composite materials, under loaded condition. The specimens are tested using the acoustic emission technique and sufficient amount of data is acquired from the acoustic emission equipment. Data acquired is processed using MATLAB and various plots are then plotted. The plots between various acoustic emission parameters obtained during the experiments were analyzed to understand the process of failure in carbon-epoxy composite plate under tensile loading. Further, the technique is applied for other specimens and data acquired is analyzed to come to a strong conclusion about the behavior of composites using the acoustic emission techniques which proves to be a powerful NDT method.
