Director - Global Principal Systems Architect 09-2015 to Present

Director level role includes running the multi-disciplinary global architecture team at a principal level reporting to C-level, SVP/VP levels with multiple “dotted lines” to various customers and products. Personal role on team as a contributor involves global networking design for more than 20 worldwide data centers in six AWS regions in a hybrid model. Duties include anchor design, customer engagements, current system assessment, process improvement, WAN deployment, “Greenfield” designs, cost and risk analysis, and optimization for a global teleconferencing company. Recent activity incudes retrofitting various network architectures to meet business goals, folding datacenters into AWS clouds, while performing research, analysis, and coordination between multiple SME teams to deliver various VOIP, SIP, RTP, and teleconferencing products via SBC infrastructure. Architecture is responsible for standardization of worldwide networking and system designs based on clinical analysis in a data driven approach. Vision casting, root cause analysis, network/system assessments, vendor assessment, and recommendations for cost savings are routine tasks. Goals include increased reliability, simplicity, and reducing costs. Environment includes MPLS, VPLS, SD-WAN, Provider-backbone (PBB/Q-in-Q), SBCs, bridging, and Radisys systems in a Juniper/Cisco environment under several industry recognizable standardized models. SaaS and UCaaS cloud models via Session Border Controllers in real-time streams are under constant systems improvement driven by architecture.


Technical Network Architect (Principal), Network and Security 01-2014 to 04-2015

Role involved performing assessment, discovery, design, compliance and implementation of a security network. This included a large fire, chemical detection, security camera and DSX access system network. System design can expand to entire enterprise for centralized safety and security management, and required approval of four fire marshals (AHJs). Managed team implementation of this “critical life” security system including NFPA72 (MFVN) compliant fire and chemical detection system, DSX access system, exacqVision security camera solution across a 37 building, 5-square mile campus at the world’s largest brewery in Golden, Colorado. Solution included new fiber, wireless, loop-free high-availability switching (VSS) and MPLS WAN cloud, integrating virtualized database and end-user software platforms while coordinating with multiple vendors and teams to meet all requirements on-time and under budget. Design is extensible to cover entire MillerCoors enterprise with Golden as the core site for the solution. Technologies included wireless point-to-point, VSS VSL, Differentiated Services (DSCP), VTP domains, multiple VLANs, segregated management VLANs, MEC style ether-channel links (LACP/PAgP, on/active/desirable), dual-active detection, high-availability failover, ACLs, SNMP integration (Solar Winds), using Cisco routers: 2910, 2920, 1920 and switches: 4506 (Sup7L-E), 3750x, 2960x and 2960c with DOM optics (multi-mode and single-mode, LC/SC/ST 7km ranges) and WAN eBGP MPLS cloud solution for scalability to enterprise deployment.

Architecture, Design, Process Improvement, and Operations Experience: 24 years -

Experience performing executive presentations, pre-and-post sales support and hand-offs for large customers audio, datacenter, and campus solutions (network, operations and endpoints).

Lead Architect, Network and Security 07-2013 to 12-2013

Discovered, analyzed, and designed multiple client systems and proposed remediation solutions and RFPs. Clientele included banks and large hospitals focused on security, wireless refresh (b/g/n), best practices, and high availability. Designed medical grade regional hospital network of 3600+ nodes including 160gb/s dark-fiber redundant long range interconnects, critical surgery system QoS (layer2), Polycom VOIP (SIP/H.323) teleconferencing, troubleshooting SONET, and high-availability Nexus 5k/2k design for the hospital’s data center. Design included compliance, RFP, SOW and BOM creation work while leading networking team.

Principal Network Engineer / Operations remediation (role) 03-2009 to 04-2013

Freelance contractor, consulting within the Network Engineering/Architecture space for clients with LAN/WAN, security, deployment or general IT guidance needs. Positions include all aspects of networking from high-level design to low-level concepts and implementation. Work included Nexus 5k/2k FEX troubleshooting, Exchange and SQL optimization, network sniffing and troubleshooting, server provisioning (HP/Dell), WAN point-to-point communication including CLEC and primary provider implementation of cloud solution. Implemented backup rotation and enacted best practices with large tape vault. Implemented network monitoring solutions with custom applications to monitor health of network, enact predictive failure techniques, removing need for reactive approach to networks and operations.

Designed and implemented carrier-grade network for an all-online company. This included instantiation of best practices, network engineering, process control, leadership team development and all aspects of hardware, and network compliance. Work included comprehensive instantiation of multi-million dollar network-engineering department for InsureMe including: BC/DR solutions, SOX and PCI compliance and performance monitoring as well as EMC SAN and MSCS.
