Through my engineering consulting business, I have been responsible for Project Engineering and Project Management for electrical distribution, electrical transmission, substation design up to 750 kV. I am currently working on transmission projects to 230 kV. I have also been involved in the construction and startup and application of energy savings technologies including variable frequency drives in process and manufacturing applications. Proficient in lighting system, AC and DC motors and drives, pneumatics AC and DC control systems, protective relaying, SCADA, RTU’s and digital protection, metering systems, and distributed control systems, Human Machine nterface, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Proficient in Autocad and protective relay schemes and electrical coordination studies.

Hydro-Quebec – Montreal, Canada - National Energy Sales Manager (1994 – 1996)

Responsible for negotiating wholesale power and technology transfer agreements between Hydro-Quebec and U.S electric utilities. This included negotiating long term and spot market bulk wholesale power sales agreements and working with various Hydro-Quebec subsidiaries to privatize, market and sell technology and expert systems in such areas as; Electrical Substation Automation, Generating Plant Control and Automation, SCADA & RTU data acquisition systems, Plant Operator Training, Series and Static Var Compensation, High Voltage (242 & 500 kV) Breaker and Transmission System Monitoring, Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) systems (SUPER) for large hydro-electric turbine-generators, River and Water-shed management software (HydroSoft), Ecology programs including fisheries and forestation management (GESTEUA), and hydro-system optimization modeling. In this capacity, I evaluated technologies developed by Hydro-Quebec’s Research and Development Institute (INRS) and determined commercial viability. Once these technologies were identified, I served as Project Manager developing commercialization plans, budgets, and managed hardware and computer software projects to prepare these technologies for sale to other utilities. Responsible for developing marketing plans, sales materials, identifying target accounts, writing brochures and other sales tools. Responsible for helping the subsidiaries with initial sales calls and to function as a facilitator to maximize the effectiveness of the sales efforts. Responsible for all sales activities conducted by the Quebec Governmental Delegation of Energy Technologies. This included traveling with government officials to visit U.S. companies interested in doing business with Hydro-Quebec and the Province of Quebec. Served as the Project Manger for Duke Power’s River Management Software project supervising a group of 65 Hydro-Quebec hydrologists, computer programmers and system engineers involved in modeling the Catawba River watershed for hydro-electric plant electric power production optimization. Managed joint ventures between Hydro-Quebec, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell International and GEC Alstrom selling expert systems that control regional and national electric transmission and distribution networks.

Siemens Energy & Automation – Senior Account Manager (1990 – 1994)

Responsible for project management, preliminary engineering, specification development, sales, installation, commissioning and service of power transmission, delivery and distribution systems, automation, lighting and rotating equipment (NEMA and above NEMA frame motors). This included direct sales and project management support to industrial customers in the petroleum, chemical, glass, pharmaceutical, food and feed, automotive, rubber, steel and semi-conductor industries. Maintained a $5,000,000 annual product and service engineering sales goal and always exceeded annual goals by a significant margin.

Provided project management and engineering consulting services to; Boston Edison’s Pilgrim Station, Southern California Edison’s San Onofre Station, Northeast Utilities Milestone Station, General Physics Corporation, NUTECH Engineers, Combustion Engineering and NES, specializing in electrical system analysis pursuant to 10 C.F.R. 50, Appendix R and NRC B.T.P. 9.5-1. Developed computer programs using Probabilistic Risk Assessment techniques to model safe shutdown capability of nuclear power plants following loss of coolant accidents, loss of off-site power and electrical system failures due to disabling fires. Developed abnormal transient operating guidelines allowing safe shutdown of nuclear reactors following fires and loss of power events. Provided training to plant operators and shift supervisors. Designed fire detection and protection systems including; cable tray, conduit and raceway fire barriers, fire sprinkler and detection systems and UL rated fire barriers to ensure compliance with 10 CFR 50, Appendix R and other federal regulations. Served as a Project Manager and Sales Consultant to Johnson Controls and All-Phase Electrical Distributors, managing energy saving projects at large industrial customers such as General Motors, Steel Case, International Paper and UpJohn Corporation. Toledo Edison Company – Nuclear Operations Engineer – 1982 – 1985

Worked on-shift in the control room supporting and assisting plant operators and shift supervisors in the daily evolutions of plant operations. Performed surveillance testing, post maintenance pre-operational testing, lineups of plant systems for operations and maintenance, modified operating procedures and P&ID and electrical one-line and control schematics based on facility modifications. Coordinated and performed Integrated and Local Leak Rate Testing. Rotated through all four zones of the plant having responsibility for operating approximately 30 systems per zone and qualified as an equipment operator in two zones (approximately 60 systems). Appointed by the Vice President Nuclear to represent the Operations Department on the Regulatory Performance Enhancement Program, the Appendix R Task Force, and to serve as the Operations liaison between Toledo Edison, Cleveland Gas & Electric and Duquesne Power Company for the Perry and Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Stations. Delivered expert testimony before the Atomic Commission on Reactor Safety (ACRS) and Congress on the impact of fires on electrical systems in operating nuclear plants. While employed in nuclear operations, Toledo Edison invested approximately $500,000 in post graduate training courses in such diverse areas as nuclear physics, reactor safety, fire protection and detection system operations and maintenance, turbine/generator operations and maintenance, health physics and human safety, pump and piping maintenance, seismic and structural analysis, probabilistic risk assessment techniques, federal and state regulatory compliance, project scheduling and management, electrical system operations and NEC Code Compliance, mechanical system operations, and quality assurance training.
