TRAINEE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER Apr 1983 Aug 1984
Jubba Sugar Project (JSP), Mareerey,Southern Somalia
-This was the first job that I ever had after graduating from Somali National University in October of 1982.
-Juba Sugar project was the biggest engineering project ever carried out in Somalia, paid for by Abu Dhabi Arab Fund . This a was a humongous project with around 4000 people working there between the cane sugar farms, the processing plant, staff housing and all other support and satellite facilities. The project was built and managed by Booker Agriculture International, a British Agro business firm . The idea was to build and operate a self contained sugarcane factory in the heart of the fertile Juba valley and on the banks of the Juba river.
- Part of what the British firm was tasked with was to train a cadre of local engineers and technician to eventually take possession / ownership of the operation on the plant and the project as a whole .
- I stayed there little over a year as a trainee electrical engineer, under the close supervision of British engineers and I honestly can say without reservation that what i learned in that time span put me in a trajectory that made everything that happened to me after
that possible. It made me who I am today.
