WESCO –Division of Amtrust N.A.(formerly National Benefit Life Insurance Company) State Plans Disability Underwriter
Responsible for preparing quotes for New York State and New Jersey Disability Insurance based on requests received from General Agents and Brokers for employer groups of up to
$100,000 in annualized premium.
Analyze financial data such as premium & claims information,as well as risk type,balanced with marketing objectives in determining offered rate. Prepare and send out premium & claims experience on in-force accounts per requests received from Agents,Brokers or Policyholders.
Negotiate offers with Agents and Brokers when needed. Periodically monitor in-force book of business to determine if renewal action is needed to ensure accounts are running at an acceptable loss ratio. Review new applications for Disability Insurance to ensure proper verified experience from prior carrier is received.
Achievements:
• Successful in improving the overall loss ratio for the Disability book of business by 6% as directed by our parent company.
• Instrumental in growing the overall Disability book by approximately 15%.
• During year-end 2016,which is the busiest time of year,was successful at completing all renewals for accounts targeted as well as all requests for new quotes despite one other Underwriter leaving the company a few months prior who was not replaced by that time.
Technical Skills: Utilize Microsoft Excel to aid in producing Disability quotes and track new quote activity. Use Microsoft Word to prepare and send out experience request letters. October 1987 – February 2000:
Rate Analyst for New England Financial.
Prepare Life and Health Insurance rates for a prospective Policyholder using demographic information such as age,sex,dependent status,employee location and salaries in determining overall group benefit rates. Responsible for analyzing a group’s claim history to apply specific points for employees with ongoing illnesses to correctly determine rates(Selective Pricing). Produce rate reports for the Sales Representatives. Train staff employees in the use of the rating system.
Achievements:
• In working for the NY Group Sales Office(GSO),successfully produced the most quotes for new business year over year vs our 22 other GSO’s around the nation.
• As the one Rate Analyst for our office,the NY Sales Office led all the other GSO’s in policies sold year over year.
