Dear Sir/Madam My name is Richard Newton I am looking for an entry level job in your company and industry after reading about the range of duties I feel this position aligns perfectly with what I am looking for. However as a entry level worker I would expect my duties to be as “assigned”, what is necessary at any given time Additionally, hours and shift what is need and or preferred concerning operational need. To give some history concerning myself. I graduated from the Galt Correctional Academy after 6 weeks academy training with the California Department of Corrections, my seniority date began on 06/07/1984 and I performed my 9 month probationary period at Vacaville State Prison primarily a mental health and physical health prison. My years in the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer carried me through various assignments Vacaville State Prison, Folsom State Prison, Pelican Bay State Prison, and EEL River Fire Camp Red Way California a total of 30 Years. My dedication to the job resulted in a 30 year retirement and many hours of vacation and holiday. I never abused my sick time or holiday also in my employee personnel file are numerous letters of accommodation for actions taken in the line of duty.

My years of service have developed my senses to emergencies and the appropriate response "don't panic" stay calm and collected and fix the problem through reasoning and deduction. I am a Hardworking person who employs sound judgment to keep order and avoid dangerous situations. However if force must be used I am trained in less-lethal force and lethal and weapons training OC Pepper Spray, baton, Ruger Mini 14 and 38 revolver. I have a conceal carry permit from my previous employment good until 2019. I am a respectful and ethical person who believes that implementing firm, clear guidelines and adopting an attitude of understanding generates a more peaceful operative environment for all involved. I was known as and officer devoted to the job all the while working towards the common goal team work. I am proud of my working history and would encourage any employer to call the Warden at Pelican Bay personally (Clark Ducart) for my back ground of record 707-***-**** ext 5001. I would be willing to take an urine analysis test or blood at any time, I do not take drugs and drink (alcohol) only moderately off work. I can be bonded and clearly have no criminal history. A common question concerning my career is usually why did you not promote? My answer has always been the same, I never got tired of doing the heavy lifting carrying out my assignments to the finish. My working skills with management and the guard-line to achieve an equable safe and satisfying finish. When working in corrections I was apart of a crew with common goals and tasks I seek the same on an rig . I seek that status again by trying to achieve an assignment with your company wanting to be part of a well oiled machine to accomplish tasked as assigned. I am self motivated and will motivate those around me by being the first out of my chair, when much younger workers see my work ethic it spreads nobody likes being out worked by someone they will probably call POPP’S. I hope to hear from your company and believe I have a-lot to offer. As I write this I have applied for my TWIC License and just informed on the telephone it is in the mail and on the way from the department of Homeland Security.

WORK HISTORY

Correctional Officer, 06/1984 to 06/2014 California Department Of Corrections Pelican Bay State Prison – Pelican Bay State Prison, CA Primary duties of a Correctional Officer is the safety and security of the institution. I transferred from Folsom Prison in 1990 to Pelican Bay State Prison my first assignment was the security housing unit. The security housing unit inmates are the recalcitrant inmates I had to supervise and deal with daily and in many cases use force to maintain safety and security of the institution. In 2009 I transferred to EEL RIVER FIRE CAMP for 3 years and supervised inmate fire work crews on site on assignments through out the state of California all the while maintaining custody. In November of 2012 I returned to Pelican Bay State Prison to retire on June 22, 2014 after 30 years. My career has certainly been an adventure but I think the best is yet to come, I still have my health and skill set and determination to venture on.

Pulaski County High School – Pulaski, VA Presently I am working as a custodian at Pulaski High School in Virginia. My work is constant and never ending cleaning rooms and emptying trash and though the pay is less and the work is hard and vastly different from my previous career I enjoy the work and interaction with my peers and students.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I was the senior officer and well respected by the warden and his middle management and my peers we worked

on many projects together. I was the officer that with worked with management to write the use of force policy

accepted by the federal courts to resolve Pelican Bays conflict with inmates constitutional rights and still

manage a prison and maintain order of the prison.

I was a member of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association and President at Pelican Bay State

Prison I was the voice and leadership of the officers.

I was a competitive power lifter for 20 years..
