Statistical Analysis of Factors Affecting Insulation Performance of a Homemade Thermos Flask – Design of experiments (DOE)

• Performed a 2^k factorial design to determine the effects of numerous factors on the performance of a homemade thermos flask.

• Collected data from the non-replicated experimental set up, performed ANOVA and set up Regression Model using JMP software.

• Envisaged a smart pill dispensing device concept aimed at reducing the number of injured due to medication error in America.

• Conducted a Qualtrics survey in collaboration with Mayo Clinic to identify the most desired feature in the pill dispenser, analyzed the collected data and gained valuable insight on the demography, customer requirements/user needs and preferences.

• Carried out part & assembly design of dispensing structure and mechanism with appropriate clearances & tolerance using SolidWorks.

• Integrated the design with SparkFun IR motion sensor, SparkFun ESP8266 Thing and Blynk application in smartphone to enable IoT, developed an Arduino script to automate timed email notification in the user’s smartphone.

• 3-D printed the prototype using MakerBot Replicator 2, established procedures and performed hands-on experimental testing to validate product and the device successfully dispensed capsules of numerous sizes after an iterative design process.
