Job Description

As a Team Member of the TMC, the TMC Operators are responsible for monitoring the roadways. This includes detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to traffic incidents. The TMC Operators use radios, telephones, and e-mails to communicate with stakeholders such as TxDOT, maintenance and construction personnel, ITS software technicians, Department of Public Safety, and Federal Highway Administration to relay information regarding incidents, traffic, road, maintenance/construction activity, and weather conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Detects and responds to traffic management information from a variety of real-time sources such as alarms, traffic flow maps, cameras, video displays, police scanners, phone calls, and other sources.

Verifies and classifies traffic events such as congestion, incidents, special events, construction, and device malfunctions using cameras and coordinates with other personnel.

Evaluate and respond to major incidents by determining lanes blocked, injuries, fatalities, spills, and estimated incident duration.

Detects and verifies device failures and responds accordingly by acknowledging an alarm, viewing and evaluating data, determining location, attempting reset, classifying alarm, recording type and providing notification to the appropriate personnel.

Communicates with the RRM Manager and dispatches maintenance crews and interagency traffic management personnel about traffic management and traffic events.

Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, maintenance crews and law enforcement agencies via telephone and radio systems. Processes and evaluates information received, prioritizes calls and dispatches required maintenance units and/or conveys emergency information to appropriate agencies.

Monitors and coordinates maintenance activity for both roadway and electronic tolling systems to law enforcement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum 1 year of related experience.

Basic computer skills

Ability to type at least 30-35 WPM.

Ability and willingness to work alternate work, shift schedules, and be on-call 24 hours/day.

Excellent customer service skills.
