-1+ years’ experience in ESRI GIS, Matlab, Mplus, MIX, FoxPro, Microsoft Office
EDUCATION
1. Master of Science in Biostatistics GPA: 4.0/4.0 08/2008-05/2010
University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL (Gained Research Scholarship)
2. Bachelor of Science in Medicine GPA: 3.0/4.0 09/2002-07/2007
Sichuan University, Chengdu, China (Award: Outstanding Undergraduate Award, Kanghai Award)
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1. Statistical Modeler -- Statistics Department, Birmingham, AL 08/2008-present
Built expertise in SAS, SAS Macros, SQL, Mplus, Matlab, MIX in large-scale data modeling, gained solid knowledge and experience in longitudinal model, linear/nonlinear model, mixed effects model, logistic regression model, parametric model, survival analysis, Meta analysis, involved in team research of several longitudinal projects.
NYU Caregiver Intervention Longitudinal Project
-For the data of 406 caregivers for Alzheimer Disease patients, used restricted maximum likelihood estimation in Mixed model in SAS, discovered treatment and gender are significant factors predicting depression score.
-Identified the significant interaction between social satisfaction and time for predicting depression, accounted for the random effect among 406 participants in the one and half year follow up.
-This discovery has wide application for doctors to pay more attention to female caregiver group, and use treatment to relieve their depression
Drinking Resolution Project
-For the data of 234 problem drinkers with two years of follow up, created three-group multinomial logistic regression model in SAS, and identified alcohol/saving index (ASDE) is a good predictor of resolution status.
-The new index has wide application to help heavy drinker quit drinking by monitor their ASDE
Low Birth Weight Project
-For a group of 189 women, implement logistic regression model in SAS to identify mother’s low pre-pregnancy weight results in low birth weight of their newborns.
-This discovery offers a good way to prevent newborns from low birth weight by controlling mother’s weight.
Meta-analysis of Data Collecting Methods Project
-Based on 10 studies of 584 people, used MIX and SAS to compare Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and Timeline Follow Back (TLFB) method, and discovered that TLFB underestimates daily results than IVR.
-Created logistic regression model by using SAS, and identified significant trend toward underestimation of TLFB compared to IVR in men.
-The finding provides an accurate method (IVR) to collect daily data
Exercise and Fall Project
-Implement negative binomial regression model by using SAS to a data of 100 people, discovered that education plus exercise is better than education only as intervention to prevent from falling.
-The finding provides efficient methods (exercise plus education) to reduce falling.
Life Space Project
-For this five year large project of 6617 people, Use Mplus and SAS, created longitudinal Mixed model and discovered that life space score is related to the interaction between location and gender, thus arises more attention for urban male’s aging problem.
Vaccine Study
-For the vaccine data of 1000 people, identified the proteins having sufficient variability and stability by using SAS and SAS Macros
-Developed linear regression model, discovered that CD32 and CD25 show ethnic associations with response.
-The results show promising methods for solving non-response vaccine.
Addiction Survival Analysis Project
-Based on the data of 238 heroin addicts, created a stratified Cox Proportional Hazard model using SAS, stratified by clinic, and discovered that prior prison record and treatment are significantly related to prognosis.
-The discovery has wide application for addiction center to pay attention to abuser with prior prison record.
2. Statistical consulting Intern – National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Birmingham, AL 06/2009-08/2009
Involved in an essential part of NASA research team, obtained in-depth knowledge and experience in large spatial data modeling using GIS, SAS, and SQL. Provided statistical consulting for a group of researchers with a variety of backgrounds.
Lyme disease Spatial Project
-Included all AL Lyme disease cases reported to CDC, created multivariable Poisson model by using SAS, identified temperature and precipitation as significant predictors
-Using GIS Hot Spot and Cluster Analysis, successively identified high risk area (Jefferson County), results were reported to the Public Health Department of Jefferson County for future prevention purpose.
-Results have important application for areas with hot and wet weather, and were summarized into a paper, which was published in NASA Public Health Review.
-Honor: NASA Contributor award.
3. Statistical Research Analyst – Sichuan University Hospital, Chengdu, China 06/2006-07/2007
Presented advanced skills in research on a three-year Hepatitis B study, processed data with resulting statistics.
-For a large data of 1000 patients, found significant correlation between Hepatitis B antigen and Hepatitis B DNA, thus invented an approach to diagnosis Hepatitis B by testing HBV DNA level.
