Professional Experience

01/2007-Present AEGON Institutional Markets Louisville, KY

Lead Developer/BSA

Project: Ireland 7-Day Capital Evaluation

Project consisted of moving the company from a manual monthly reporting paradigm to an automated weekly reporting model for AEGON’s Global Institutional Market’s division. This was required by the Moody’s Rating Agency in order for AEGON Global Institutional Market’s to keep their AA rating. Project was successfully completed 2 months before the required Moody’s reporting deadline. As the technical lead on the project, my roles and duties were as follows:

• Design and implement a data model that would store all asset, derivative, liability, and analytic data.

• Partner with the Risk Management group to develop business requirements for the creation of the capital model calculation engine.

• Design and develop the capital model calculation engine using a table driven approach that implemented dynamic SQL. This allowed flexibility, which the risk actuaries required, to make changes to calculations without requiring coding changes.

• Design and develop ETL processes to load the data model from a variety of sources and formats.

• Design and develop a table driven workflow/dependency structure that would drive daily/weekly processing by enhancing a home grown workflow management facility.

• Design and assist in the development of a Queuing mechanism, using VBScript and SQL Server, to automate running multiple processes, in a specific order, and allowing them to be re-run by the users as needed.

• Work with other developers to ensure quality, standardization, and progress. Maintain a project plan, of development tasks, and report status to the project manager.

• Lead meetings with enterprise information security team to ensure the application met all SOX and internal audit requirements.

• Coordinate, organize, and lead all environment elevations.

Project: Collateral Management and Projection System Enhancements

As AEGON Institutional Market’s collateral positions weakened, the Collateral Management and Projection System (CMAPS) needed to be enhanced to handle the current financial environment. I was the lead developer on the original development of CMAPS and was asked to lead the technical team to enhance CMAPS to become more of a day to day system than a monthly hypothetical situation system. As the technical lead on the project, my roles and duties were as follows:

• Modify existing table structures, stored procedures, functions, and database triggers to accommodate daily data and processing.

• Create a new asset posting methodology and modeling scenario that would better manage AEGON Institutional Market’s day to day collateral needs.

• Design and develop ETL processes to load the data model with new data sources.

• Upgrade existing ASP.Net web application to the 2.0 framework.

• Assist in the upgrade of the existing database structure from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.

• Enhance existing web application to accommodate new modeling scenario and daily frequency.

Current Project: AeMcS – AEGON Market Consistency Reporting

Served as the BSA and Lead Developer on implementing corporate wide consistency in how AEGON models and tracks their Asset and Liability cash flows, how we shock those flows and perform lapsed re-projections in order to mitigating risk. As the technical lead on the project my roles and duties are as follows:

• Create a cash flow generation engine that is scalable and portable using a C# object oriented design.

• Responsible for all phases of development life-cycle and all tiers of development including C# BLL/DAL layers, and SQL Server 2005 database design and development.

• Work with other developers to ensure quality, standardization, and progress. Maintain a project plan, of development tasks, and report status to the project manager.

• Coordinate, organize, and lead all environment elevations.

04/2004-1/2007 AEGON Shared Services (Dedicated Support Team) Louisville, KY

Project: Collateral Management and Projection System

The goal of the project was to improve the overall collateral management process, by focusing on improvements to the efficiency, effectiveness, and timeliness of the posting/availability process for AEGON Institutional Markets division’s collateral. As the technical lead on the project, my roles and duties were as follows:

• Design and implement a data model that would store all collateral agreement rules, language, exposures, and other contractual data. Along with contractual agreement data, the data model would also store investment asset data along with asset data from Bloomberg.

• Design and develop a table driven approach to accommodate complex asset eligibility rules. Table driving the rules gave the users ultimate flexibility to maintain them without coding changes.

• Create ASP.Net application to maintain all of the collateral agreement data and rules.

• Create customized excel data dumps accessible from the ASP.Net application.

• Design and implement the logic to determine asset eligibility, enforce agreement aggregate limits, optimize asset posting order, and hypothetically posting of the assets.

• Design and develop ETL processes to load the data model from a variety of sources and formats.

• Coordinate, organize, and lead all environment elevations.

Project: Workflow Management Facility

Served as the technical lead, on the development of a workflow facility, that was to be used by many different subject areas. As the technical lead on the project, my roles and duties were as follows:

• Design and implement a data model that would store workflow information as well as data mappings and data adjustments.

• Design and develop a table driven approach to accommodate data adjustments rules. Table driving the data adjustments gave the users ultimate flexibility to maintain/create data adjustments without programmer involvement.

• Create ASP.Net application to maintain all workflow, data mapping and data adjustment information.

• Design and implement a process to asynchronously call processes and message back to the user with progress.

• Design and maintain project plan to ensure that project timelines were being met.

01/1999-04/2002 AEGON Shared Services (Dedicated Support Team) Louisville, KY

Internship/Entry Level Programmer/Intermediate Programmer

Project: AEGON Divisional Intranet Development

I started with AEGON as an intern in 1999. Once my internship completed, AEGON Shared Services offered me a position on the AEGON Institutional Markets Division’s dedicated support team. Shortly after I was hired, AEGON acquired Transamerica. The Transamerica acquisition required system migrations, data conversions, new system development, and systems support transition. Being a part of this process, so early in my career, allowed me to gain valuable knowledge of different types of technical projects and laid a solid foundation for my technical career.
