*Professional Experience*
Network Administrator (2007 – Present)
Schwan Cosmetics USA, (21 Gordon Road, Piscataway, NJ)
* Planned and rolled out entire reconfiguration of the network to move from a
thin client-based Citrix and Novell network to an in-house autonomous Windows
2003 Server network while utilizing an MPLS connection to the parent company (in
Germany) for intranet access. This project resulted in a 100% decrease of
outside service providers, a 9% increase of system uptime, and a decrease in
average response time of nearly 8 hours for system and user issues.
* Moved Exchange mailboxes from parent company’s offices in Germany to a local
Exchange 2003 installation without the need to change email addresses, all with
no service interruption.
* Connected a new manufacturing location via a point-to-point private T1 using
Adtran routers, Linux-based HP thin clients, and Terminal Services. This
allowed our users to utilize our Navision database with much less strain on our
network resources as well as saving $2,000 a month for the otherwise needed
bandwidth.
* Supported all users at both locations including Office, Navision, and Windows.
* Project management for all Navision change requests. Also performed some very
basic report changes in Navision as well as a complete security reimplementation
to enhance flexibility.
* Installed and configured Cisco ASA device (including setting up a VPN allowing
for full 24/7 support of the network as well as allowing users to work from
home). Also installed and configured Websense Express.
Network Administrator (2003 – 2007)
Bellco Glass, Inc (340 Edrudo Road, Vineland NJ)
* Trimmed the overall data center yearly costs by over half.
* Reconfigured entire network in order to stabilize and optimize for
performance. Better utilization of resources allowed for an increase of 10x its
previous speed (with no new equipment needing to be purchased).
* Developed and implemented an upgrade strategy to bring all existing PCs up to
a baseline standard including Windows XP, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft
Navision. This allowed for standardized rollouts and upgrades, cutting costs
dramatically when repairing and rolling out new PCs.
* Planned and deployed a migration from a mixed-domain (NT and Windows 2000
Server) to Windows 2000 SBS including moving to an in-house Exchange server.
The end result of this migration was better security, more reliable email
service, and reduced costs of licensing.
* Re-engineered entire backup schema providing better disaster recovery using
fewer tapes, which provided a much higher level of data retrieval.
* Implemented Altiris’ Deployment Solution for remote desktop management and
package deployment to simplify rollouts of new systems and installations of
commonly used software.
* Project management for all MRP and website software installations, upgrades,
and changes, including getting existing project for Navision rollout back on
schedule and budget.
* Reconfigured Cisco PIX firewall for Exchange access as well as Navision access
to new website.
Systems Engineer (1998-1999)
Forté Systems (New York, NY)
* Parke-Davis – Set up servers with NT 4.0 and DTA 4.02; used DTA to inventory
hardware and software on primary and 3 satellite sites. Built jobs (packages)
for updating scan engine and DAT file for McAfee Antivirus. Responsible for all
jobs, testing, and documentation implementation. Analyzed impact on network
traffic using a packet sniffer. Created new DTA design document, and various
other related documents and procedures. Returned to site to repair a corrupted
database and give detailed instructions on maintenance of DTA as well as
research benefits and contingency plan for upgrading to DTA 4.0.3. Returned yet
again to help with the rollout of IE4.01 and Y2k related patches on both east
and west coasts.
* New York Power Authority – Created jobs and scripts for updating/upgrading all
client machines (~1,500 per site) to MS Client, Novell’s Client 32, IE4.0,
Outlook 98, Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.1, and creation of Outlook profile. Manually
migrated users from Novell Group Wise to Outlook 98. Upgraded DTA to v4.0.2
using PCAnywhere.
