2009 to present BAE Systems Mechanical Engineering Manager

Primary responsibility is to ensure team’s success by meeting customer’s requirements and delivery milestones within budgetary constraints for over ten different programs. Department is staffed with 6 Mechanical Designers and 2 Mechanical Analysis engineers. Department responsible for successful design, analysis, integration and support of various processor based systems for space applications. Tasks include:

2007- 2009 Systems Engineering Manager

Oversaw design, test and integration for space processor systems & software department of nine engineers. Duties included:

2006-2007 System Engineering/PEM:

As Program Engineer Manager (PEM) on the Mini-RF program worked very closely with the Program Manager to ensure all aspects of the engineering community were engaged in meeting customer requirements, schedule and costs. Made arrangements for facilities, staff, tools, and resources so that all program needs were in place when required. The Mini-RF program consists of two dual-polarized Mini-RF Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR’s). PEM for the processors in both the Forerunner satellite launched on the Indian Space Research Organization’s Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, and LRO Mini-RF on NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Forerunner utilized a processor designed and built by SSTL (UK) and the LRO mission which utilized a BAE designed and built processor. The Forerunner segment required managing a foreign subcontractor with ITAR restrictions. Both the Forerunner and LRO programs were very successful.

PEM duties included:

• Provide high quality Systems Engineering services

• Weekly review of program schedule and verified scheduled operations started and completed on time.

• Coordination and execution of major program milestones such as PDR, CDR, MRR, and TRR.

• Validate that programs are executed within allocated budgets and schedule based on factored risks.

• Develop and manage cost, schedule and technical baseline and maintain high cost and schedule performance indices.

• Identified and resolved non-compliances early in the program.

• Management of overseas subcontractor for the mission pathfinder processor maintaining ITAR restrictions.

• Supported initiative to begin a Product Engineering discipline

• Tracking product in the field

2003-2006 Program Manager

Due to a surge in programs, I was requested and accepted a temporary Program Management assignment. Responsible for the overall planning, execution and leadership of five space processor hardware programs with four different customers. Position required exemplary management, communication, and leadership skills across multiple functional disciplines. All of the programs managed met or exceeded financial expectations.

2000-2003 Electrical Engineering Manager

Engineering Manager for Space Processor Hardware Development department (staff of 14) with the following responsibilities:

• Overseeing design, test and integration of processor based space products through initial ambient test, vibration, thermal, and final sell-off.

• Cost Account Manager for circuit card design ensuring budgets for the electronic engineering team met cost and schedule constraints.

• Lead team of Electrical, Mechanical, and Software engineers from program kick-off to CDR.

• Technical supervision of construction, test, debug, and sell-off of engineering and flight processors.

• Define and refine process necessary to meet program requirements.

• Customer technical interface and support following product delivery

1986-1995 Electrical Engineer

• Bring-up and debug of fully custom ASIC radiation hardened 1750 satellite processor system

• Designed circuit card used to validate operation of lockstep 1750 processor Multi Chip Module (MCM)

• Designed processor circuit card and memory module cards

• Coded diagnostic tests using REXX and 1750A assembler

• Chief engineer for delivery and support of system deliveries

• System simulation, and electronics testing with meters, scopes, etc..

• Designed Special Test Equipment for test of one of IBM’s first 1750 space systems.
