PROJECTS AND TRAININGS UNDERTAKEN

• M.Sc Dissertation (Feb onwards 2012): “Use of 3D Head Shape for Personal Stereo” at University of Surrey, UK. Supervisor: Dr. Philip Jackson, Deptt. of Electronic Engineering, University of Surrey.

Aim of this project is to develop a personal binaural stereo system based on an individual’s head & ear shapes and positions. Reliable and efficient personal stereo relies on having an accurate representation of how sound arrives at the ears, which is characterized by the Head-Related Impulse Responses (HRIRs). This project calculates HRIRs by applying tools of acoustical simulation, like the Boundary Element Method (BEM), on a 3D head-scan of an individual in MATLAB. Generated audio is evaluated for different source positions and frequencies.

• B.Tech 4th year Major Project (Jan-May 2011): “Development of Speaker Identification System” at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. Mentor: Prof. R.S. Anand, Deptt of Electrical Engg, IITR.

Developed a Speaker Identification system to identify individual speakers blindly from a sample of mixed speech. The first task was to recover independent source signals blindly, which was accomplished with the help of ICA technique of BSS. This process was followed by identification of the speakers from a database based on speaker characteristics & identity, which was achieved using MFCC and VQ techniques. Programming done using MATLAB.

• 3rd year Summer Break (May-July 2010): “Visualization of Speech Prosody for Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)” at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Mentor: Prof. S.N. Koh, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, NTU.

Developed a system for displaying speech prosody (intonation and stress) for the purpose of CALL in MATLAB. The aim was to assist students to learn foreign languages by providing visual feedback of pitch contour, volume and stress. Various prosodic features such as pitch contour, volume and stress of a native speaker’s speech and of the students’ own responses, along with their respective audio recordings, were displayed back to them simultaneously for comparison, learning and correction.

• 2nd year Summer Break (May-July 2009): “Jamming Detection and Counter-Measures in Large Scale Wireless Sensor Networks” at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore on an Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc) Fellowship. Mentor: Prof. Anurag Kumar, Deptt of Electrical Communication Engineering, IISc.

Developed and simulated “Packet Traffic Model” based and CUSUM (Cumulative Sum) based Algorithms on MATLAB for Jamming Detection in WSN. Jamming detection was done based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values of individual wireless sensor nodes. Also developed Fusion Algorithms for identifying all simultaneously jammed nodes and thus mapping the whole network for successful location of Jammer. Implemented the above algorithms on Telos-b motes using TinyOS programming.

• 1st year Summer Break (May-July, 2008): Developed a Windows and Web Application Software for keeping record of Placement Status of College Students using VB.NET and ASP.NET in Microsoft Visual Studio at IT Innovations Training Centre, Bhopal. Awarded “Excellent” grade.
