HSE Management Systems
Joined Union Texas petroleum that became ARCO and then BP as a result of multiple mergers. Facilitated implantation of 4 distinct HSE management systems that included DNV’s Loss Control Management, ARCO’s Operations Excellence System, BP’s Getting HSE Right and ISO 14001.
Carried out gap analysis related to above systems, developed action plans and managed development of processes. Ensured timely completion of all actions.
Compiled HSE responsibility matrices. Developed key performance indicators for over 600 employees and 3000 contract staff on 20+ locations including production facilities, drilling, construction and other sites.
HSE Process Development, Audit & Reporting
Developed and periodically updated emergency response and business continuity plans.
Led BP’s 8 Golden Safety Rules (8GSR) procedure development and review exercise that included Permit to Work, Working at Heights, Energy Isolation, Confined Space Entry, Lifting Operations, Management of Change, Driving Safety and Ground Disturbance.
Developed Incident Investigation, Planned Inspections (HSE Audit) and Group Communications processes.
Developed Hazard Alert and SAFE card system to record identification and mitigation of hazards.
Drafted Incident Lessons Learned documents for distribution to BP business units all over the world.
Prepared ‘Quarterly HSE Performance Report’ for senior management.
Developed annual “Incident Trends report”, identified root causes made recommendations.
Ensured that all HSE requirements are met during production, construction, drilling activities and are part of project plans. Independently and jointly conducted HSE audits and risk assessments at these sites.
Investigated accidents. Advised and helped incident investigation teams in determining root causes.
Coordinated monthly HSE committees meetings at 3 locations for 7 years.
Ensured timely actions related to HAZOP, Safety Case, Integrity Management, Road Safety and other studies.
All HSE processes, action plans, incidents, lessons learned and other documents were made available on line.
Represented UTP and BP Pakistan internationally on HSE forums.
HSE Training & Development
Produced HSE training video. It was watched for millions of hour and saved thousands of training dollars.
Conducted high quality HSE training covering multiple topics. Assessed needs, developed material and trained 15 – 20 employees and contractors per month for 10 years, the figure goes into thousands.
Behavior based Safety management - Trained 120+ employees and contractors as ‘Advanced Safety Auditors’.
Organized training related to BP’s 8 Golden Rules (8GSR). Identified trainers, scheduled sessions and monitored success. Some 200 hundred sessions held to train over 600 employees and 3000 contractors.
Developed 8 GSR quiz. Prepared questions in English and 2 local languages. A software was developed for online testing. Successfully organized written and online quiz for employees and contractors.
Developed training video script for oil tanker drivers.
Designed and managed HSE promotional campaigns.
MANAGER ADMINISTRTION, GPM&S (Global Property Management & Services) & GPM&S Projects (Moved to GPM&S function for 2 years from Oct ’03 to Oct ‘05)
Managed facilities successfully leading 60+ staff. Prepared and managed GPM&S Pakistan’s multi-million dollar operating, capital and projects budget.
Aligned BP Pakistan’s policies with function including HSE, budget, job descriptions, training & development, services and office protocols.
Interviewed candidates. Responsible for GPM&S staff training & development, performance appraisals, special projects and for performance reporting to top management.
Managed $2 million office renovation project. That included project planning, team nomination, risk assessment, contractors’ HSE training dealing with 25+ contractors and project monitoring. Successfully reduced 35% space and 40% operating cost.
