I worked as a Lab Technician for Akzo Nobel through Delta Pharma as a temporary contractor. I worked in the Decorative and Resin coatings divisions. My duties and responsibilities included running tests on house paints (interior and exterior), primers, and tints. Tests included checking the temperature of paints, the PH, weight per gallon, bake duration, paint luster’s, drawdown’s, cleanliness, gloss meter, and providing the final approval on all paints to be released to the customer. If the paints were out of specifications, for Quality Assurance, I would do adjustments on the batch to make sure it was fully correct standards before going to the customer.
My job consisted of doing titrations, maintaining all levels of dipping tanks; chemicals, water, and ecoat for seat frame parts. I also performed solid testing on ecoat before ecoat was used on parts. Repaired valves and pipes on dipping tanks as needed. Filled in on the paint line as needed hanging seat frame parts to be painted for automobiles. Trained to add chemicals to used waste water to obtain a positive water flow back into the city water. Maintained a clean and safe work environment at all times.
I attended six weeks of training to answer phones as a customer service representative answering phones for military retirees. The calls received were anywhere from retirees needing to change their address, taxes, or more detailed questions regarding their military pay.
As a Senior Development Assistant, I communicated directly with employees and customers on how to improve color appearance in paints. I received calls from a diverse customer population of which included chemists, paint shop managers and service representatives at Honda, General Motors, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, and Chrysler. Through my verbal and written communication skills, I was able to provide excellent customer service based on my substantial in-depth knowledge and understanding of the laws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations of our company to improve and/or resolve any customer complaints and/or issues. This knowledge provided me with excellent communication skills to provide feedback from the customer to my team to eliminate future customer complaints.
I was responsible for analyzing the paints used in automotive car paints for defects. I have reduced paint into small batches to check color properties and solvents. Reducing paints involves precise math calculations of obtaining percentages for the correct amount of solvents, latex, and tint pastes needed.
While testing different paints, I worked with robotics. Robotics is different atomizing guns, electro-static guns, and bells. I have used standard hand spraying equipment on test panels which is then provided to the customer.
I have great computer skills in Microsoft word, Excel and Tandem. I prepared daily reports using Microsoft word for my supervisor and team leaders. I used excel to create and analyze measurements such as fluid flows, temperature, humidity, solvent blending, and recipes for creating different paints. Tandem is a database that I have used to look up production batches. Tandem will show how to reduce the different solvents and color codes.
When, and if, spray equipment malfunctions, I troubleshoot the equipment and check fluid lines, air caps, nozzles, pressure gauges, and other apparatus fixtures. If any defects are found, I completed the maintenance required to repair the equipment. I maintained and serviced all equipment vital to the process.
During my time as a lead applicator, my responsibilities included assigning daily work, instructing all shifts responsibilities, cleanliness of the room, working directly with the chemist and customer, ensuring the work is accurate and completed in a timely manner. Working directly with customers on new color trials and presentations.
I received numerous customer service awards, such as being involved in color trials, getting colors done in timely orderly fashion, making dead lines, safety, perfect attendance, and Customer satisfaction. Had picture taken in PPG news letter with Ford team, in which I with worked on a certain color, that all other competitor’s failed to get approved.
