Relevant Employment:
2007-present Research Assistant/Teaching Assistant Binghamton University
From the summer of 2007- summer of 2008, I was a research assistant for Dr. Oana Malis. During this time, I acquired equipment and software, kept track of purchasing, aided in the direction of our research, wrote computer programs and generated simulated and experimental data for our project in design and optimization of optical interconnects. In the summer of 2008, I was the TA for one section of a course in introductory physics for non-scientists, and in the following fall and spring semesters, I was the TA for two sections of a calculus-based introductory physics course. Most recently I have been "head TA" for phys122, Introductory EM, where my responsibilities included holding meetings to advise other TAs, and aiding the professor with administrative duties. For both, my responsibilities included holding two one-hour discussions per week (where students and I would discuss lecture material and work on particular problems) for each section, and two office hours per week per section. I also administered a weekly quiz, took attendance, created my own grading policy, posted solutions to problems, frequently met with students outside office hours, and graded quizzes and exams.
2004-2007 Teacher St. Mark’s High School
Was a full-time teacher at St. Mark's High School where I taught General Science to freshman, and Physics to seniors. I had the freedom to design my own curriculum, and I worked with other faculty to develop it over my three years. Also, I held three workshops for teachers at St. Mark’s in a school-wide technology integration project. I helped students prepare for the science olympiad in 2006, and I was also the chess club moderator. Over the three years, I consistently focused my teaching strategies and have designed over 200 original and creative assignments, quizzes/tests/labs, powerpoint presentations and projects.
2004-2006 Research Assistant University of Delaware
Volunteered part-time for two years with Dr. Branislav Nikolic on spintronics-based incremental engineering projects. I used computational methods in the hope to realize semiconductor heterostructures for spin-based information transport.
Fall 2003 Teaching Assistant University of Delaware
Taught three discussion sections in Sharp Lab for the course “Black Holes and Cosmic Evolution.” Each class was fifty minutes in length every week for Dr. Harry Shipman. It was my responsibility to go over topics covered in the curriculum, collect and grade homework assignments, host mini-project group sessions and take attendance.
Summer 2003 Research Assistant University of Delaware
Worked with Dr. John Gizis in the study of brown dwarf stars. During this time, Dr. Gizis was beginning to use the Chandra X-Ray Telescope to search for brown dwarf stars. I searched through data, finding stars of specific luminosity, thought to be brown dwarfs.
