GIS/GPS Technician

I coordinated all GIS/GPS activities for the Forestville branch. My responsibilities included preparing printed thematic maps of the job locations for all the field crews, the setup and configuration of all the Trimble GeoXT handheld GPS devices. Each GPS device has all the location specific layers symbolized and cached accordingly in ArcPad. I routinely modify the custom data collection application to enable easy job specific field collection of the data points using GPS Correct, WAAS or DGPS. I was responsible for configuration of the post-processing method which utilized Trimble’s GPS Correct, ArcGIS, MS Access and then formatted into Excel or Shapefile according to clients needs.

I have served as project manager on smoke testing projects, which entails planning and preparation of the week’s work, service area impact notification, onsite management of field crews and acting as the lead contact for communication with clients. Occasionally I work on manhole inspection projects, performing onsite physical inspections, review and edit of the data within Flexidata and Access as well as serve as liaison for project billing.

GIS Internship

Worked as a GIS intern for a GIS contractor that was hired to assess, modify and update the Transportation Routing System for Prince William County Schools. My work primarily focused on the update of the County's Point Address Layer within Ft. Belvoir. The information obtained was to enable a more comprehensive address point match while geo-coding students for the ArcGIS based routing system. The resulting address point layer was then included in a composite address locator, which was tied to the County's master address repository.

The work primarily entailed using a GPS device coupled with a laptop running ArcInfo to spatially adjust or create new address points and their associated attributes. To accomplish this task I used the existing County Address Point layer along with Street Centerline files from multiple sources, Ortho Photography and Satellite Imagery in MrSID format. I also created thematic maps for use within presentations or for use in analysis.
