Senior Design Project: Scaled Model of Orion Crew Module at the University of California Riverside January - May 2011

A four man undergraduate student project which was the culmination of four years of engineering undergraduate study sponsored by NASA. Specifically, our project involved the scaling, design and construction of a scaled model of the Orion Crew Module. The end result was a scaled model that needed to test the pressure on the heat shield of the crew module when dealing with splashdown landings utilizing a pressure transducer with LabVIEW software and a pool to simulate an ocean landing. We were provided a consultant from NASA who was an engineer working on the crew module who provided us with necessary specifications and answered any of our questions. This was a 20 week project with bi-weekly deliverables including reports with detailed 3d constructions, conceptual designs, scaling analyses, stress analyses, energy analyses, among other deliverables.
