Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work as directed by his immediate superiors.

• Responsible for the positioning of slips, rig tongs, spinners, elevators and other rig

equipment as directed by the driller, assistant driller & other ranking personnel.

• Assisting the driller in all areas related to the drilling of the well.

• Connect/disconnect pipe using tongs.

• Watches the shaker and other solid control equipment during drilling and circulation.

• Assists servicemen to the rig-up and down of their lowering their equipment.

• Operates the tagger winch for lifting or lowering of equipment & materials from the

platform to the rig floor and to the derrick.

• Making pipe and collars secure on the rig floor.

• Loading and unloading drill pipes.

Duties and Responsibilities

(A) TRIP PIPE

1. Prepare to trip pipe.

a) Prepare pipe as required.

b) Put trip tank on line and fill.

c) Check safety lines, ropes, and air hoists.

d) When applicable, prepare pipe rack to stand back, lay down, or pick up pipe.

2. Work derrick while tripping the drill string (i.e.; pull out of hole, run in hole).

a) Release pipe from elevators and rack in proper position when pulling out of hole.

b) Latch elevators on drill string and stabilize as floorhands stab the stand when running in the hole.

c) Operate air hoist to manoeuvre drill string in derrick.

3. When applicable, operate pipe handling machine to lay down, pick-up, stand back drill pipe.

a) Operate machine in coordination with driller and Floorhands to place stands.

(B) PUMPS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT

1. Monitor mud pumps.

a) Visually inspect and listen for abnormal sounds or noise.

b) Check position-lubricating system.

c) Ensure pop-off valve is on proper setting.

d) Ensure suction and discharge dampeners have proper pressure.

e) Charge dampener as needed.

2. Maintain and repair mud pumps.

a) Check pony rod clamp whenever pump is turned off.

b) Lubricate gear end of pump and check oil levels in gear end of pump.

c) Replace defective swabs, liners, valves, seats, and wear plates of the fluid end of pump.

d) Make ready replacement parts for fluid end.

e) Ensure proper liners, swabs, etc. are in use.

3. Maintain all other pumps in pump room.

a) Visually inspect for leaks or abnormal operation of lubricating pump, brake cooking pump, or oil flushing pump.

b) Lubricate.

c) Replace packing in centrifugal pumps.

4. Operate, maintain and repair gate valves associated with the mud system.

a) Align, open and close valves for desired position.

b) Lubricate valve stems as required.

c) Replace defective parts in valve.

5. Operate and service transfer (Butterfly) valves in mud pits.

a) Align (open and close) for appropriate function.

b) Lubricate valve stem of butterfly valves.

c) Clean and inspect transfer valves when pits are empty.

d) Replace or repair defective parts as necessary.

6. Operate and maintain chemical mixing pumps and equipment.

a) Ensure all valves are properly lined up.

b) Engage mixing and transfer pumps.

c) Lubricate valves, mixing pumps, and transfer pumps.

d) Replace defective or malfunctioning parts and valves on pumps.

e) Clean and inspect mixing hopper in mixing area.

7. Operate the pits.

a) Ensure compliance with regulatory agency and/or company policies when operating equipment.

b) Align valves in pits to ensure usage of pits as desired.

8. Operate, maintain and repair mud-conditioning equipment in pits.

a) Engage and/or adjust appropriate equipment as directed by supervisors or mud engineer (eg: shaker, degasser, desilter, desander, mud cleaner, agitators).

b) Clean and visually inspect all equipment for leaks, proper operation, etc.

c) Replace screens or cones as necessary on shakers, desilters, desanders.

d) Perform periodic or scheduled preventive maintenance.

( C ) DRILLING FLUIDS

1. Monitor mud.

a) Weigh mud and check viscosity to keep it to specifications.

b) Maintain appropriate volumes and types of drilling fluids as required by well program or company.

c) Monitor returns.

d) Report anything abnormal to supervisor.

2. Mix drilling fluids and chemicals.

a) Arrange mud materials and chemicals in sack room for safe and efficient use.

b) Operate forklift to move sack material.

c) Use appropriate mixing procedures to ensure desired properties are obtained.

d) Ensure use of proper safety procedures and equipment for mixing and handling chemicals.

( D ) ADDITIONAL DUTIES

1. Inspect and perform routine maintenance of derrick and connected equipment.

a) Inspect safety lines, ropes, air hoists, monkey boards, sheaves, crown block, derrick bolts, pins and welds and all other lines and equipment in or attached to the derrick.

b) Lubricate air hoists, sheaves, crown block fast line guide.

c) Replace defective parts, or effective minor repairs.

d) Perform jobs or tasks in the derrick as required, such as hanging back of travelling block, replacement of sheaves, etc.

2. Prepare to commence drilling operations.

a) Align equipment of active systems for drilling.

b) Turn on all appropriate machinery.

c) Watch for returns.

3. Assist in running and cementing of casing.

a) Align valves and fluid system for casing fill-up line.

b) Rig up, function test, lubricate, and operate casing stabbing board.

c) Stab casing from casing board or assist where needed by driller.

d) Mix chemicals for cementers and align pumps to cementer.

e) Align fluid system for displacement of cement.

4. Assist Driller or Assistant Driller on drill floor.

a) Assist in nippling up BOP's.

b) Act as lead hand when on drill floor.

5. Stand by in pump room in emergency situations.

a) Align mud-circulating system.

b) Mix required drilling fluids.

c) Activate required equipment.

6. Makes up part of emergency crew performing duties as required by station bill or as otherwise directed.

(E) ADMINISTRATIVE/MANAGEMENT/TECHNICAL

1. Manage people and time.

a) Supervise Floorhands per Driller/Assistant Driller direction.

b) Assist in training of drilling crewmembers.

c) Ensure proper safety procedures and policies are followed and practiced.

d) Plan work to be performed upon approval of supervisor.

2. Maintain logs and records.

a) Maintain daily log of drilling fluid properties.

b) Maintain daily log of drilling chemicals and mud materials usage.

c) Maintain preventive maintenance records.

d) Maintain log and records of equipment and parts usage.

3. Perform calculations and tests.

a) Calculate pit volumes.

b) Tests drilling fluids for properties.

4. Maintain proper communications.

a) Advise supervisor of all current conditions and of any changes.

b) Use proper hand signals for crane operator and in derrick.

c) Use correct handover procedure with relief.
