General Manager

Was promoted to general manager in May, 1988 and transferred to Torrance, California. Transferred to Santa Ana in 1992 to new acquisition, and to Bakersfield in 1994 with division re-alignment. All facilities were stand-alone profit centers, with annual sales between $10 - $20m and had between 20-30 employees. Torrance was a Teamster union facility, the other 2 were non-union. Plant controller, buyers, and plant superintendent reported to me, I reported to a regional manager. These facilities were feedstock suppliers to corporate and 3rd party paper, glass, plastic, and aluminum mills. We generated annual budgets for all accounts except income taxes. Monthly variance analysis, modified profit projections, and capital project requests were done at the plant level.

Internal Auditor

At the outset of my career with JSC I was an internal auditor. I conducted approximately 45 financial and operational audits in an approximately 18 month period. Approximately 3 weeks each month, I would travel from St. Louis on Sunday evenings and go to a facility somewhere in the US for the balance of the week. After a brief training period, I performed all fieldwork by myself.
