Research Project
1. Grouping of halophilic archaea based on ARDRA, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, India (www.msubaroda.ac.in) Jan 2009 – April 2009
Reculturing of all the 13 isolates in liquid media and cell culturing on the solid media.
DNA isolation from 13 different archaea and DNA amplification by PCR.
Gel electrophoresis to examine the weight of each amplicon so as to design restriction digestion system and study the relationship between all the isolates.
Restriction digestion of amplified rDNA (ARDRA – amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis).
Using NTsys software constructed a dendogram to group all the 13 isolates based on UPGMA (unweighted pair group method average).
Experience with Laminar air flow,UV transilluminator, thermal cycler, electrophorectic unit, NTsys pc 2.0
Media, gel and buffer preparation, noted the observations and thesis writing
Worked under the guidance of Postdoctoral fellow
Experience
1. Research Assistant at Rockefeller University, Manhattan, NY Nov 2010– Mar 2010
Worked voluntarily at Laboratory of mucosal immunology under the guidance of a Postdoctoral associate
Restriction digestion of shRNA samples so as to replace the genes followed by ligation of the plasmid with digested LMP-GFP
Extraction of the samples from gel after electrophoresis
Transformation of E.coli with plasmids and culturing them in liquid media and solid media
Prepared LB agar media, stock buffers , gel loading dye, base pair ladder gel loading solution and gels of different percentages
Experience with autoclave, Thermocycler, shaker, UV transilluminator, electrophoretic chamber, Microcentifuge, NanoDrop, incubator
Reviewed research papers, took images of agarose gels, Data record keeping.
2. Training at Sterling Biotech Ltd, Baroda, India (www.sterlinggelatin.com) June 2008 (1month)
Sterling Gelatin is a leading manufacturer of gelatin and hydrolysed protein for pharmaceutical and edible purposes from bovine bones and fish skin from India
As a part of and partial of final year of undergraduate program did a month training in Quality Control Laboratory of product coenzyme Q10 at manufacturing division
Gained an understanding of the fermentation process starting from lab to large-scale
3. Training at Serum Institute of India, Pune, India (www.seruminstitute.com) May 2008 (15 days)
Serum Institute of India is the world's largest producer of measles and DTP group of vaccines and hormonal products and markets other pharma products
During the training was explained the techniques in Bacterial vaccines production and quality control
By visiting the various departments of the company learned the stepwise development of drugs/vaccines
4. Unpaid vocational training at GSFC, Vadodara, India (www.gsfclimited.com) July 2007 (1 month)
It is an organization formed for supporting the farmers by manufacturing biofertilizers, biofungicides, pesticides, biofuels, hybrid seeds, tissue cultured banana and industrial products like ammonia and urea
In the Biotech department, prepared agar plates for culturing of Trichoderma Harzanium from the mother plate, collected the colonies for large scale production and performed the quality test of the final product
In the Biofertilizers department, prepared media for culturing azobacter, azospirillum and rhizobium both for lab and manufacturing
In the Tissue Culture department, prepared media for culturing banana callus, and developed skills for banana tissue culturing
5. Junior faculty at EEC, Vadodara, India (www.eecglobal.com) June 2009–Sept 2009
Enbee Education Center is India's largest test preparation organization that helps students to prepare for standardized tests like GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, SAT, IELTS and language training
