2007 - 2012: Broadcast technician

I have worked for 2 major Greek Companies:

• ERT S.A (Greek Public TV-Station): 3 SD Channels (‘Prisma+’, ‘Cine+’, ‘Sport+’) 1 HD Channel (HD Sport+) (www.ert.gr)

• OTE TV (Satellite Pay-TV): 3 SD Sport Channels and 1HD Sport Channel. (www.otetv.gr). Production Companies who have collaborated with OTE TV; Sports.comm (www.sports-comm.gr), Pld Production (www.pld.gr), Skai TV- Station (www.skai.gr)

SD and HD Signals and Measurements: Maintenance and upgrade of the Master Control and Program Broadcasting installation in ERT S.A. Extensive cabling installation and use of SD-SDI signals at 270Mbps and HD-SDI at 1.485Gbps. Eye pattern, signal jitter detection and other measurement techniques, using broadcast-quality Tektronix oscilloscopes.

Transmission Play Out Infrastructure and Automation Systems: Administration of Aveco Astra automation systems, EVS XT videoservers, SAN storages, DVB-T subtitling servers, various enterprise-class servers and other TV broadcasting dedicated software/hardware. All systems mentioned are redundantly interconnected using 100/1000Mbps Ethernet and 2Gbps Fiber connections.

Database Management/IT: Daily management and maintenance of Date Base. Maintenance of Play list-import, Ingest and Asrun-export workflow servers who run Apache/PHP/MySQL. These servers run Windows 2003 and 2008 Server operating systems. Aveco use QNX (Unix Based).

Mac computers are used for non-linear editing via Final Cut Pro, and also for advertising content delivering via Internet.

Content delivery/Ftp servers: Collaboration with various Advertising Distributors, such as the Greek company ‘DIGI8’ and the International company ‘Adstream’. The advertisements are delivered via a VPN network with automated pull from remote FTP servers or push in local FTP server or directly delivered to Windows2008/Mac Servers that work as remote VTR, controlled by Aveco Management System.

Transcode: Extensive tests and research using EVS MediaXchange platform, in order to transcode ProRes 422 files to the EVS MJPEG MXF format and subsequently integrate them with the tapeless ingest workflow (controlled by Aveco's media asset management system).

Data Storage and Archive: Videoservers maintenance implementing RAID3 UltraSCSI HDD arrays, plus near line storages on SANs with multiple RAID5 and JBOD arrays, interconnected with SDTI proprietary networks at 1485Mbps and redundant fiber switches.

MCR/ Broadcast Programming Operator: Operating live Broadcast enviroment. Satellite uplink and downlink services and satellite communication needs. Satellite Transmission. Upconvertor/Downconvertor. Broadcast Automation (Aveco, Vsn). Technical support and reports on hardware and software status. Audio and Video monitoring, Playout Operator and technical support, XDCAM VTR (SONY PDW-HD1500). Ingest, Live Editing, Archiving. 24/7 shift work, including nights, weekends and national holidays.
