Through my role as a governance advisor with linguistic capabilities in support of the Department of State, Political Section, the Office of Constitutional and Legislative Affairs (CLA), my responsibilities included supporting legislative strengthening and institutional development programs. Oversaw a capacity building, 1.6 million dollars, project provided to the Council of Ministers General Secretariat, which enhanced the technical capabilities of this central Iraqi Government Institution. Moreover, I was actively involved in regional and international conferences and workshops provided to key Iraqi Government Institutions and legal staff; including legislative drafting and institution development. Interpret for senior level officials and Ambassadors – including complex legal translations. Furthermore, I provided political, historical and cultural advice to senior staff as per CLA’s mandate. During my tenure with CLA, I have had the opportunity to engage with numerous central Iraqi Government institutions including the Iraqi Parliament, the Presidency Council, and State Consultative Council; it is most rewarding and fulfilling to have been part of the rebuilding process, and supporting the United States mission in Iraq.

Provide Document Exploitation Quality Control, Training and Translation of products between Arabic and English languages at the National Media Exploitation Center (NMEC) in support of the United States government agencies. Train new linguists on standard operating procedures including transliteration, and provide quarterly refresher-training for existing linguists. Review screened documents, gist of essential elements of information and fully translated document for quality assurance and in order to provide final outputs in standard formats. Document sources include hardcopy, electronic and multimedia products. The final translation is highly visible and accessible by numerous government agencies.

Supported The United States Marine Corps, Regiment Commander and headquarters center of command in order to carryout ground missions, leadership engagement with local Iraqi Police Chief, Iraqi Army-Brigade Commander and local tribal Sheikhs through verbal and written translations. Moreover, as a native Iraqi I contributed to enhancing cultural awareness of local tradition, thus facilitating effective dialogue and successful attainment of mission driven goals. Written projects included translations of both English and Arabic handbills, posters, and orders of critical military missions. Further, interpreting which included interaction with local citizens, commanders meetings, and audio recordings. Furthermore, I participated in missions targeting specific wanted terrorists in various areas inside and surrounding the district of Fallujah, Iraq.
