Engineering Projects
• Acoustic-based Algal Biomass Harvesting: Separate algae from water using piezoelectric transducers to produce optimal sound waves. Once algae is separated into parallel planes the algae is collected using flow through or batch harvesting devices.
• Mechatronics: Designed and constructed a voice operated remote controlled car (VORCC) using PICBASIC Pro compiler. The car recognized a trigger command and operated on 22 different sub-commands. VORCC also had built in headlights that automatically turned on in the dark.
• Reverse Engineering: Disassembled a toilet flush/refill mechanism, modeled and documented each part using Pro/ENGINEER, and discovered the purpose for each component.
• Manufacturing: Designed and manufactured a scale model of a pogo stick using a CNC milling machine, lathe machine, milling machine and die casting.
• Truss Climbing Competition: Designed and manufactured a robot to climb a six foot long, wooden truss at a 20 degree angle with obstacles. When it reached the top the robot dropped a flag in a hole.
• Cell Phone Design: Our objective was to design, model and document our own cell phone using Pro/ENGINEER.
