• Selected as a Conservation and Land Management Intern, worked with the BLM
• Refined my knowledge of ArcMap and learned new applications (Manually entering coordinates, ArcCatalog use)
• Worked with the regional Civil Engineer on several projects (Water Crossing placement, Oil Well inspection, etc.)
• Performed plant coverage surveys, thus gaining practical GPS unit knowledge

• Assisted in Climate Change/Geo-Referencing research with Pati Vitt, Ph.D
• Learned to manipulate several GIS programs (DIVA-GIS, ArcView, MaxEnt) and use excel to create databases converting number data into spatial data

• Prepared a powerpoint presentation for a plant biology conference in late May illustrating the important of mapping technology to determine effects of climate change

• Obtained valuable real-world restoration/conservation experience
• Worked at several Chicago area forest preserves, spraying invasive plants and cutting down invasive trees
• Learned how to use various herbicides, as well as chainsaws
