Profile

I have ten years of industrial design experience, working as an independent for various disciplines, including architecture, product and yacht design. My expertise in various forms of visualisation, such as hand sketch design and experience centred design, are combined with cutting edge experience in computer automation protocols and algorithms for production.

Currently research into aesthetic consideration in ship design at the university of Southampton, supplies me with insight into the interests held by the passenger and crew in style and designed experience. The research developing an approach to categorization, for use in design and production that uses interpretive psychology, Gestalt psychology and the philosophy of aesthetics. Ultimately illuminating where design philosophy, can help unify an approach to facilitate and communicate design intent. Linking a mathematical and algebraic approach with simple and clear design language, throughout the design group and team.

I enjoy working with various business and industrial sectors. I’m highly motivated, committed, work well as part of a team, and possess strong communication skills. I am incredibly passionate about design and understand how to interpret the end user.

Qualifications and training

2009 - University of Southampton - Fluid Structure Interactions Group.

• Aesthetics Consideration in Ship Design:

Theoretical resources from the philosophy of aesthetics and Gestalt psychology are used in case studies to categorise the significance of facets and features in a cross section of ship design. Illuminating those universally appreciated features that can be shared across type and classification, and that can be used to base subjective and experience centred design on the end users persona.

This systematic and pedagogical approach to source ingredients for generative, and design from emergence is a suggested as a way to integrate the softer side of interests held by the passenger and crew into the ship design process. Hoping to help make engineers and designers creative with a quantifiable set of parameters. Give the naval architect an ability to design within the complex solutions envelope and with the design team, to supply a durable and ethical approach to aesthetic appreciation and design, in the ship design profession.
