Independent Consulting 2009-2010

• As independent consultant I assisted several small medical practices: Professional Foot and Ankle; Freeman Foot Care; and Robin Snead Medical Practice with their operational environments and office setup. I was responsible for the office build-out including the installation and configuration of their Window 2003 Server environment, installation of Cisco Routers and Switches and various other technologies.

• Installation and configuration of a patient tracking application called MediNotes.

Manger of Application and Environmental Support 2000 – 2009

• Oversaw a staff of 10 associates working on a variety of support activities for the Enterprise Operational environment.

• Performed software installation, upgrades/patches, troubleshooting for the Unix Server Infrastructure including AIX, Redhat, SuSe, Solaris.

• Administered the WEB environment for the Enterprise Financial Applications including the installation, configuration of IBM HTTP Server, Apache, Websphere and Oracle Weblogic.

• Designed the IBM p5 (p595 and p570) server infrastructure used to support PeopleSoft, WebSphere V5, DB2 V8, and Oracle 10g applications which replaced legacy SP hardware technology. This environment employed the latest IBM Virtualization technology with dynamic resources (processor and memory) allocation and shared ethernet connections.

• Installed and configured the Hardware Management Console and dual Virtual I/O servers to handle resource sharing (disk, network components) that reduced the overall cost.

• Led requirements gathering efforts to build new production operational environment for PeopleSoft Financial and Reporting Applications. This environment consisted of six application/web servers and two database servers.

• Developed and administered the Enterprise Offsite Tape Storage Procedures using Tivoli Storage Manager Software (TSM).

• Led the implementation of the DB2 to TSM interface and the creation of special storage pools to migrate the database image directly to tape for DB larger than 3 GB in size.

• Installed and administered the HACMP environment used to provide a High Availability environment for the Advanced Communication Engine Application. This environment included adapter, DB, and application fail-out.

• Led the migration effort of the billing application to migrate to WebSphere version 5 from version 4.

• Managed the Supported staff that installed and administered the infrastructure environment for the TransUnion Routing Facility (TURF) application. TURF is a back-office customer support application written with J2EE, EJB, C++ and XML and utilizing a multi-terabyte DB2 back-end database, Websphere Application Server and IBM MQ Series. Was responsible for the administration and support for the DB2, WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ Series environments. Also supported application layer connectivity and communication to the network utilizing TCP/IP and HTTP protocols.

• Supported the Transform application, written in Visual Basic and C++ using a Sybase back-end database and the Websphere Application Server environment.

• Was responsible for maintaining and configuring hundreds of applications servers in a 24x7 environment to ensure high availability and constant up-time.

• Performed UNIX and Linux Kernel tuning for web, database and web application servers. Tuning for I/O performance at the disk level and network communications at the Network Interface Card and TCP/IP level.

• Managed and led multiple sub-projects ranging from application migration to website implementation like the Migration the billing application to DB2 version 8 and AIX version 5.3.

• Responsible for mapping-out LPAR placement and documenting the Shared Ethernet Adapter connection and system resources assignment.

• Project manager for the installation and configuration of the VIO server.

• Built several Redhat Enterprise Linux operational environments to perform the Web and application functionality for the PeopleSoft applications.

• Built a performance database using MySQL software to store performance information from all servers and developed routines to produce monthly trending reports.

• Assisted in the developed of the enterprise virtualization strategy for AIX and the Linux environments.

• Managed the support team charged with supporting the zLinux operational environment. This team was responsible for the implementation and support of the SUSE Operating System.

• Oversaw consultants assigned to projects to insure maximum utilization.

• Oversaw activities of several Technical Team Leaders in their team’s activities ranging from DNS and TCP/IP configuration.

• Created an Operational Environments which consisted of 3 IBM p690 frames and 32 LPAR’s.

• Consolidated 6 IBM SP2 frames into 2 IBM p570 frames to reduce costs by well over $200,000 annually. This environment employed the latest LPAR technology with dictated resources (processor and memory) allocation.

Team Leader –Distributed Systems Integration (1997-2000)

• Responsible for 12 associates consisting of 2 Network Engineers, 3 Senior SNA Administrators and 7 System Administrators.

• Initiated and managed projects involving System Administrators to increase the performance and output of the operational environments.

• Led the implementation effort for the IBM SP2 operational environment. This environment supported the Enterprise Data Conversion Application which processed over 10 million transactions per month.

• Responsible for the installation and configuration of Tivoli Storage Manager backup software (TSM).

• Led the installation effort for IBM Network Installation Manager Software.

• Ensured all managed environments had sufficient processing capacity to complete their processing schedule within deadlines.
