Oracle DBA Activities:
Installed Oracle software on RHEL5 Linux, applied patches, created databases in non-ASM mode, installed appropriate DBMS_ packages, created empty Instances, required schemas, application Roles, along with appropriate User accounts and grants and imported data from Production.
Estimated the sizes of the databases for future growth.
Handled (along with other DBAs) moving multiple instances of databases, application server, shell scripts from Solaris servers to HP-UX preserving directory structure, ownership of files and time stamps using scp, rcp and ftp.
Backed up, restored and recovered/refreshed databases using custom scripts involving SQL*Loader, exp, imp, expdp, impdp, Oracle Streams and RMAN.
Analyzed dump files, trace files, alert log files for any errors and important events on the Oracle home/base directories using AWR reports, Explain Plan, and Enterprise Manager (EM).

Development/Application DBA/Production support Activities:
User Management: Create/alter/drop schemas as needed. Grant only roles, privileges and quotas that are needed to various accounts.
Used dbms_crypto and dbms_obfuscation_toolkit to implement security on data. Separated user accounts from application account and gave required privileges to modify the application objects.
Gathered statistics for schemas, tables, and indexes, on a regular basis for the accurate results using cost based optimization. Rebuilt tables, indexes to move to different tablespaces and to remove of row-chaining. Partitioned tables, indexes for quick access of huge data. Analyzed explain plans and trace files for query performance. Used Oracle hints to override rule based optimization.
Kept Oracle Designer up to date with all the DB changes including tables, views, synonyms, grants, users, stored procedures, functions and packages. Maintained several branches for various parallel releases. Extracted deployment scripts for the DB objects from Oracle Designer.
Used dbms_scheduler for scheduling jobs, dbms_refresh, dbms_mview for materialized views, and dbms_pipe, dbms_random, dbms_stats, dbms_sql etc for various purposes.
For every release, maintained the orderly list of changed program units, any manual one time scripts, and migrated from Development to System Test to User Acceptance Test to Production.
Performed test deployment activity for every major release, documented complete deployment procedure.
As part of Production Support, refreshed materialized views, verified daily job logs for failures, fix errors. Performed beeper support.
Developed, tested, and implemented shell scripts using ‘vi’ editor for back ups, refresh of DBs, data loads from/to external systems, and automated thru Crontab.

PL/SQL Programming Activities:
PL/SQL programming is my strongest skill of all.
Implemented Objected oriented technology such as Function Overloading, Encapsulation, Abstraction, and Recursion using Oracle packages.
Implemented design documents, PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, cursors, ref cursors, and shell scripts to automate jobs.
Implemented tables, views and independent packages for debugging, document storage, document search, email, encryption, error handling, event tracking, C(B)LOB handling, role management and entity search functionality. Granted necessary privileges to execute to other applications of the same project.
Used Oracle Streams to capture the changes to populate the Audit tables with in the same instance.
Used Oracle_Text features for search. Created ctx_sys context indexes. Used Regexp functions to retrieve search results based on a user criteria.
Used dbms_lob to create a custom package to deal with CLOBs and BLOBs.
Prepared test cases for unit testing and System Integration testing for complex functionality, data loads and report data.
Modeling Activities:
For my projects, prepared new models and extracted existing models (logical and physical) for development activities using Power Designer and TOAD modeler and Oracle Designer.
Designed and implemented Tables, surrogate keys, primary keys, unique keys, foreign keys, indexes (b-tree and bit map). Normalized tables to 3rd normal for OLTP and de-normalized to 1st normal form for Data Warehouse needs.
Involved in UML design by creating use cases, activity, sequence, class and process flow diagrams using Rational Rose and Visio for critical processes.
Data warehouse Activities:
Used star schema and designed and implemented dimension tables, fact tables, hierarchies in dimension tables, cubes, and levels. Used OLAP functions to generate reports such as rank, lead, and lead.
Created, modified, executed and debugged ETL graphs (multi file graphs as well) with various components and deployed them as shell scripts to load data into DW using ‘Ab Initio’, Oracle Data Warehouse Builder, and PL/SQL tools. Helped creating ETL graphs using Informatica and Data Integrator.
Used SQL Server Analysis Services, Reporting Services and ProClarity to analyze, slice and dice (data mining) the Cubes to make sure the Cubes are formatted according to User requirements.
