Contract Mainframe Developer
CIBER Consulting Inc.
While engaged at CIBER from 10/2008 to Present:
Assigned to a major conversion project with State of Tennessee. Task involved converting their automobile tag registration legacy system from COBOL/DB2 application to JAVA. Responsibilities varied, including DBA Support/Data Analyst, Mainframe Developer.
• Gained familiarity with REXX load technique for smaller, static DB2 tables
• Created and maintained COBOL/DB2 programs for loading larger, non-static tables
• As DBA support, took pressure off in-house DBA and project DBA by acting as laission between JAVA developers and ST TN end-users
• Based on ever-changing end-user requirements, implemented DB2 table release changes as necessary (new tables, table modifications, table obsolesence, etc.)
• Maintained user Security tables (over 2000 users) for system access, which allowed for the proper access of both end-users and JAVA developers.
• As Data Coordination, maintained DB2 table data in 6 different DB2 test regions. Maintained over 80 DB2 tables per region, some of which contained over 25 million rows.
• Technical Environment: IBM Mainframe, TSO/ISPF, COBOL II, DB2, FTP (multi-platform), DB2MON, File-Aid, SPUFI, EZTrieve, REXX loads. Platinum, Librarian, Elipse, Edison, TOAD, Platinum, Infopac, MS-Office Suite, Move for DB2

Application Software Engineer
Blue Cross Blue Shield
While engaged at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee from 11/90 to 09/06:
Worked my way up from Programmer to Systems Analyst. Performed as Team Lead in Membership and Marketing area of Applications Support. Environment was multi-platform. Daily responsibilities included programming using IBM mainframe platform (COBOL II / DB2, CICS) and an AIX UNIX platform utilizing Sybase ISQL (interactive as well as scripting).
• Gained familiarity with all phases of SDLC, including analysis, design, development, testing, installation and maintenance of Mainframe systems with exposure to Client/Server and Web technologies.
• Extensive experience in developing business applications in COBOL, DB2, SQL, JCL, MVS, TSO/ISPF, VSAM, SPUFI, Xpediter, FTP.
• Helped to facilitate conversion and implementation of new vendor software (FACETS) from previously built in-house software applications. Assignments required data conversion (DB2 to SYBASE) using DB2 utilities, AIX scripting and stored procedures. This implementation required conversion to the multi-platform environment that BCBST now employs (MVS mainframe and AIX/UNIX/SYBASE). Subsequent to implementation, responsibilities included testing and implementation of new software releases.
• Daily responsibilities included addressing concerns of business users and business analysts. Addressed and resolved software bugs and performance issues on both the MVS and UNIX/AIX platforms.
• Collaborated in the development of in-house software and hardware interfaces in support of new HIPAA privacy guidelines, EDI transactions. This involved exposure to new technology (HIPAA Repository, Gateway, EDI Translator).
• Coordinated with federal government I/S personnel to establish system and implementation requirements for ongoing Medicare requirements, including Medicare-D.
• Daily responsibilities also included: Customer id-Cards, membership (enrollments, terminations, coverage changes, etc.). Since data resided on crossed platforms, these tasks required working in both IBM and AIX/UNIX environments, including FTP needs.
• Addressed data integrity, Disaster Recovery / backup and future requirements planning. These tasks, as well as some of the tasks mention previously, included coordination and interaction with other I/S areas.
• Utilized Regression testing techniques, which allowed for controlled program changes.
• Technical Environment: IBM Mainframe, TSO/ISPF, COBOL II, DB2, CICS, APS, AIX UNIX, Sybase ISQL, FTP (multi-platform), Xpediter, Omegamon, DB2MON, Stored Procedures (DB2, SYBASE), Harvest, ZEKE job scheduler, File-Aid, ProEdit, SPUFI, EZTrieve, MS-Office Suite, HIPAA Gateway (EDI Health Care transactions 270/271, 820, 834)
