My primary skills are in design and development with focus on engineering discipline and solutions. My work has included design, and selection of materials, for parts made via injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, structural foam molding, casting, extruding, pressure forming, and other processes. I have designed mechanisms, enclosures, systems and subsystems, and taken them through all phases of development (prototype, product development, product release, maintenance, and end of life cycles). I am experienced in SolidEdge, SolidWorks, CadKey, AutoCad, CosmosFEA, Visio, Excel, and other MS Office tools.

Employment History:

Nov 2008 to Present

Imaging Sciences International

Senior Mechanical Engineer

I work in the development of 3D tomography products used in dental diagnostics and also 2D XRay equipment. This ranges from small digital intra oral receptors, and positioning devices for them, to large dental office analytical products containing large format receptor panels and XRay Heads. I work on the development of instrumentation including wall mounted and self standing equipment. I am skilled in the use of Parametric modeling tools (primarily SolidWorks) as well as the full line of standard Windows Office tools. I am involved in both physical design of products from concept to implementation as well as in addressing Regulatory and Compliance issues. I ve analyzed and prepared HFMEA and DFMEA studies. Recently I ve been granted 2 patents on intra oral device designs. I also have other concepts submitted for patent consideration. I ve designed and developed intraoral sensor housings, and devices for achieving the proper positioning of sensors during Xray exposure. I ve also designed components for taking patient Xrays - including yokes, tube heads, wall mountings, and remote casings. The first year sales of the intra oral device exceeded $50 million dollars in revenue. My current design work is in the development of apparatus and methods for positioning and stabilizing patients during imaging.

Jan 2006 to Nov 2008

Synthes

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Worked on the development of a new family of arthroplasty shoulder implant devices used in treatment and correction of humeral fractures and degenerative conditions. I worked closely with surgeons in identifying design goals and refinements. Coordinate activities with Regulatory group towards obtaining FDA approval of new products. Duties included testing (both via mechanical test lab tests and in hands-on bioskills cadaver lab validation), vendor liaison, and training of sales consultants. Worked on the design and development of surgical instruments used in the operating room for achieving exposure and removal of degenerated humeral heads and in the installation of intramedullary anchored stems supporting artificial humeral heads. Efforts were contributory to the successful launch of the company s first arthroplastic implant and its associated surgical tools/instruments.

August 2004 to Jan 2006

Draeger Medical Infant Care (Air Shields), Hatboro Pa. 19040 / 215-***-****

Senior Mechanical Engineer and Manager of Serial Engineering (dual role)

Responsible for resolution of product life management issues with emphasis on those dealing with compliance, and those reported through field complaints. Products: Incubators, Radiant Warmers, and Phototherapy.

* I developed design solutions (and conducted the verification and validation) to correct design deficiencies that had caused controller failures (as evidenced through sudden screen blanking) on the flagship product of Air Shield s incubators. This involved my personal design of mechanical changes, test fixtures, authoring of test protocol for evaluating the effectiveness of design changes, conducting vibratory testing, documenting tests, compiling a complete design history file (for FDA review), and overseeing all drawing changes.

This allowed the ongoing production of units costing $20,000 each and improved customer satisfaction without an increase in cost.

* I also led a design team in correcting design shortcomings in the thermal distribution of radiant warmers and in the functioning/drifting of mechanisms (Trendelenburg) used for adjusting the inclination of patient mattress.

This averted shipment stoppage (for non-compliance) and averted the recall of products ($800 K in field).

* I was the key controller in Hatboro for documentation required for achieving compliance to the European Directive (WEEE) for CE marked products.

This established the compliance needed to retain an $18 million revenue stream from Europe.

* I have presented new methodologies to the New Product Development team for achieving a controlled humidity environment in new incubators. I also offered design solutions for incorporating visual imaging for special warning systems while monitoring patient s conditions (patent pending).

May 1999 to July 2004

Hill-Rom (Air Shields), Hatboro Pa. 19040 / 215-***-****

Senior Mechanical Engineer and Manager of Product Improvement Department.

* Established Priority system for weighing ECNs

This drove our next starts to be targeted at Regulatory needs and at the voice of our customer.

This maintained our sales position in a field with growing competition.

* Developed an assessment process for ECNs that allowed for business case evaluation and the elimination of no value added tasks. In conjunction with this I led a multidisciplinary team in review and closure of ECNs.

This resulted in a reduction of Company s ECN backlog from 280 to 85 in the period of 9 months.

* Identified root cause for leakage in reservoir system and eliminated it through the my redesign of seal. Also conducted tests of corrosion to reservoir floats and developed float design that was corrosion free.

This eliminated a high rate of field failures and complaints associated with reservoir shortcomings.

* Worked with vendor in development of disposable probes that would not be susceptible to EMI/RFI disturbances.

As a compliance issue development of this solution was essential to allow the ongoing production of a disposable component whose annual sales revenue exceed $1 million.

* I conducted tests to identify root causes of corrosion to reservoir floats; and I developed a float design that then had corrosion free performance.

This eliminated a high rate of field failures and complaints that had been associated with the incubators failure to achieve customer set humidity levels.

(Initially hired in the Manufacturing Engineering Department).

Responsible for development of workstations and manufacturing processes, with one of our Nation s primary manufacturers of neonatal thermoregulation devices (infant incubators and warmers).

March 1989 to May 1999

North American Draeger, Telford, Pa. 18969 / 215-***-****

Senior Design Engineer. Responsible for ongoing product refinement and development, with the nations largest producer of anesthesiology equipment. Among the tasks I performed are the following:

* Designed a unique bi-stable switching mechanism for use in snap mechanical switching from ventilator to breather bag. This design is being considered for patent submittal. In the process of this, I initiated patent search methods that served for the ongoing study and resolution/avoidance of conflicts with existing designs.

These methods were subsequently used as a foundation for establishing a technical patent search committee that was then dedicated to these tasks.

* Performed equipment redesign and customization for a wide range of specialized machines. These alterations often entailed designing unique components (such as monitor supports, magnetic shielding, frame redesign, cabinet variations, and sliding platforms) so as to allow non-standard features to be incorporated into our standard products.

This permitted a wide range of accessories to be offered with the Draeger machines.

* Designed stand-alone injection molded vaporizer platforms to replace more costly early configurations. These were designed to allow adaptation to competitors equipment, and have provisions for optical scanning of barcodes identifying reagents.

This is still offered with Draeger s vaporizers.

* Developed and finalized designs for the manufacture and implementation of quick disconnect vaporizers used in the first domestic release of this feature.

This design is still used on Draeger s anesthesia devices.

* Redesigned commercial check valve design in high pressure gas yoke assemblies which virtually eliminated field failures, increased manufacturing acceptance levels, and decreased cost.

This eliminated a potential cause of catastrophic failure. My design modifications were subsequently adapted, by our supplier, for use in a variety of their standard check valves.

I also conducted after-hour classes, at NAD, where I instructed in-house personnel on the use of Lotus and Quattro. I subsequently conducted evening courses over a three year period at Upper Bucks County Area Vocational Technical School in Perkasie. These classes were in Word for Windows, Understanding DOS, and Introduction to Computers.

January 1979 to February 1989 ,

Innovative Medical Systems, 55 Steamwhistle Drive, Ivyland, Pa. 18974 (company closed in 2001)

Senior Engineer . When I joined the Firm it was a small startup company developing of a variety of laboratory instruments and devices.

I designed a small compressor based refrigeration system for tissue embedment applications. I designed and received a patent (# 4,307,965) on a unique test tube mixer that is still in manufacture and is marketed worldwide. I worked in the design and development of colorimeters, histology tissue processors, fluorescence polarization systems, fraction collectors, electronic micrometers, transelectrocutaneous nerve stimulators, syringe pumps and other devices. Included among my job responsibilities were: product development (from conceptual phase through to manufacturing), vendor liaison, efforts to maintain OSHA compliance, liaison with Underwriters Laboratories, and many engineering tasks. Included in the design skills I utilized were: stress analysis, familiarity with fabrication techniques (injection molding, investment casting, sand casting, blow molding, machining, sheetmetal fabrication, etc.), flow analysis, material compatibility expertise, heat transfer analysis, statistical analysis, etc.

* The products I helped develop and manufacture were then marketed by Technicon, Lancer Division of Sherwood Medical, Fisher Scientific, Royco Instruments, Baxter Travenol, Hoffman LaRoche, and other major manufacturers.

* My contributions aided in this company s growth from a start up with only 10 individuals to an organization of 150 employees.
