As an editor and proofreader, I was accountable for quality assurance for the clients’ (Bristol Myers-Squibb, Quintiles, and Comcast) deliverables: e-Learning modules/multimedia--responsible for checking accuracy of functionality, the navigational buttons, interactivity, video, audio/closed captioning, still imagine, animation, grammar, spelling, style, and consistency of a variety of documents (storyboard, PowerPoint, PDF, and Desktop Publishing); completed immediate or unexpected editing assignments as well as doing Chinese translation; multitasked and met and/or beat the tight deadlines.

As a Medical Editor for National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) under the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), I was accountable for clinical content development (checking for FDA warnings for drugs and inserting appropriate FDA warnings, searching guideline developer’s web sites for implementation tools and companion documents, marking up of content for consistency in style and presentation, verifying hyperlinks, standardizing references, editing/reviewing online the clinical guideline documents against the original guideline documents, and checking for accuracy and completeness of titles, drug names and terminology, abbreviations, symbols, signs, dosages, units of measure, headers, and bibliographic source fields). Working closely with freelancers and reviewers, I provided them with effective and constructive feedback on the regular basis. I participated in hiring, training, and guiding the new editors/proofreaders with regards to company policy and procedures. In addition, I reviewed all work by new staff to ensure high accuracy and completeness. In 2008, I was promoted to Medical Editor. From 2006-2007 I was a Medical Proofreader responsible for both NGC and National Quality Measures Clearinghouse (NQMC):
• For NGC, I was responsible for performing final quality control and proofreading all clinical guideline summaries for precision and completeness in a timely manner to maintain weekly web publication cycles.
• For NQMC, my duties included performing pre-verification review for measure summaries to be published on time and with high accuracy.

As a Senior Technical Editor at ASTM International, I was in charge of both the online and the print publications of the Journal of Forensic Sciences and other technical books and journals as well as standards. I managed the interface between ASTM International and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, trained new editors on all types of publications (including manuals, Special Technical Publication for books and journals) as well as on company policy and guidelines. I was in charge of the department workflow and staff when the supervisor was out of the office. In addition to working closely with forensic experts throughout the world, I worked well with the officers and members of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, authors, customers, typesetters, and printers. Satisfying my customers was my top priority. I listened closely to our customers to enhance their productivity and efficiency. I worked closely with freelancers, providing them with guidance/instructions on conformity and other editorial issues to improve quality of all publications. As a seasoned editor, I developed editorial procedure manual for new editors. I developed online file management procedures for better consistency for naming conventions. I contributed to lots of solutions to numerous issues/problems that were encountered when the Journal of Forensic Sciences was first pioneered to go online. I took initiatives and helped to troubleshoot database problems to successfully generate the annual author and subject indexes. I hosted several training sessions with freelancers and editors for improving editorial workflow to meet or beat the publication dates. Very tactfully and professionally, I interacted with different people of all levels from Marketing, IT, and Production Departments to maintain clear and effective communications. I was able to meet and beat all deadlines for publication dates for everything that I was responsible for (technical books, journals, and manuals) with high quality, thus I helped to bring in greater revenue for ASTM International. I have extensive in-depth knowledge for all publications from raw manuscripts to bound books/journals. I also volunteered as a translator for all ASTM International’s outreach effort/exchanges with China, providing immediate support for negotiations that enabled the signing of many important business contracts. Because of my significant accomplishments and contributions, I was promoted several times during my employment at ASTM International.
