MECHANICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Achievements:

• One of five Engineers to achieve all three Crawler Transporter operation and driving certifications required for Space Shuttle Vehicle transportation

Responsibilities and Experience:

• Manage operation and maintenance (O&M) procedures of the diesel/electric power generator sets and mechanical systems on board the NASA Crawler Transporters at Kennedy Space Center. Mechanical systems include compressed gas and complex hydraulic systems that are used to lift and level 12 million pound Mobile Launch Platform and 3 million pound fight hardware loads

• Drive and operate the NASA Crawler-Transporters. Operations include transporting Space Shuttle Vehicle and Mobile Launch Platform to Launch Pad

• Lead mechanical systems engineer on the Orbiter Transportation System (OTS) and Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Transporters. Manage operation and maintenance (O&M) procedures. Mechanical systems include hydraulic, compressed gas and structural systems

• Provide technical direction and guidance to lower level technical personnel

Responsibilities and Experience (continued):

• Troubleshoot technical problems and issues. Determine technical solutions in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to United Space Alliance or NASA representatives for product solution

• Manage personal and cost in the implementation of systems maintenance and modifications

• Experience with maintenance of hydraulic winch systems, electromechanical control systems, experience operating high lift vehicles and fork lifts

• Experience working with compressed gas systems, electrical power generation systems, and associated switch equipment.

• Experience with maintenance and operation of fiber optic and laser class II and & IV

• Associated with military programs; networking & information systems; Mil Touch typing. Familiarity with military operations

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

• Effective computer skills. Includes developing and leading MAXIMO maintenance procedures

• Effective oral and written communication skills, ability to follow instructions; ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

• “Silver Snoopy” Award: This award is recognized as the highest personal achievement award at Kennedy Space Center. The NASA astronauts presented this award for the design, testing and integration of propellant thermal conditioning units on launch complex 39. Aug 1994

• Engineer of the Quarter Award: This award was from the fluid systems department for design, testing and integration of the propellant thermal conditioning units on launch complex 39 Oct 1993

• Developing and performing procedures for the maintenance and operation of environmental control and life support systems on both the Space Shuttle Vehicle and associated ground support equipment

• Developing and performing procedures for the maintenance and operation of the Orbital Maneuvering/Reaction Control systems (OMS/RCS) on both the Space Shuttle Vehicle and associated ground support equipment

• Systems include the use of hypergolic propellant, ammonia refrigerant, HVAC systems, freon coolant systems and compressed gasses at Kennedy Space Center.
