RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
CUNY City College, Chemistry Department New York, NY Project Title: ”Exploring the Electro-Chemical Properties of Carbon Nanotubes"
Fall 2009
Explored properties of the carbon nanotubes by applying different voltages to the tubes and by analyzing data using Raman Spectroscopy.
University of Chicago REU, Physics Department Chicago, IL
Project Title: “Characterizing Niobium Superconducting Thin Films” Summer 2011
The objective of this project was to obtain high quality thin films of Niobium and Titanium Nitride for use in superconducting media such as circuits. While working in a clean room, electron beam deposition was used to create various thin films having different thicknesses and evaporation rates for creation. Electron beam deposition proved to be a viable method for creating high quality thin films, and protocols developed during the process will be used as the core of the labs fabrication process moving forward.
CUNY City College, Benjamin Levich Institute New York, NY
Project Title: “Patterns in 3D Vertically Oscillating Granular Layers” August 2011 – March 2012
Laboratory experiments were conducted for thin layers of particles in a vertically oscillated container as a function of the frequency f, amplitude A, and depth H. Nexys 2 board and Diligent Adept software was used to program sine waves which would send signals to a digital/analog converter, which would be connected to a voltage regulator. The voltage regulator would provide the energy that would be converted to mechanical energy, which would eventually be used to oscillate our particle layers.
Senior Design Project, Chemical Engineering New York, NY
Project Title: “Factory Scale Production of Atorvastatin Calcium” January 2012- Present
Working in a group of 4, a factory scale model for developing atorvastatin calcium or Lipitor was created. Our design, which utilizes the use of two separate patents allows for a simplification of the original model, allowing for both a cheaper production cost and an easier/less harmful synthesis of our product. Chemical synthesis, process flow sheets, cost analysis, and sustainability/green chemistry were all included in our task specifications, which lay out the basics for the production of our product.
LEADERSHIP & ACTIVITIES
American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), City College Chapter New York, NY
Secretary Fall 2010 – Present
