• Experience in evaluation and integration of the read – write channel IC into the Hard Disk Drive.
• Failure analysis of the drives, particularly on the read write electronic and servo mechanical system.
• Extensive experience in analyzing, debugging, validation, and testing analog/digital blocks such as High Pass Filters, VGA amplifier, Asymmetry Correction, Thermal Asperity Correction, Low Pass Filters, FIR filters, Write Precompensation, Encoder/Decoder, Servo and Read synthesizer etc for magnetic disk drive at high data rate (Read channel 2.5GHz, Servo channel 1.25GHz, 90 nm technology).
• Extensive experience with test equipment such as LeCroy Oscilloscope SDA6000 and DDA7500, Agilent Network/Spectrum Analyzer 4396B, Tektronix Arbitrary Waveform Generator AWG701, Noise Comp Generator UFX7110, Tektronix Differential Probe P6246, Agilent Logic Analyzer 16802A, Fluke Digital Multimeter 88V etc.
• Layout, prototype, test, troubleshoot and isolate the problem of the complex analog and digital circuits from the design engineers schematics and specifications.
• Troubleshooting mixed signal complex circuit skills.
• Document and maintain engineering records. Write detail ECO procedures, review BOM and other documentations for clarity before transferring to manufacturing.
• Help to verify, troubleshoot and provide technical guidance to manufacturing technicians.
• Understanding of Hazardous Materials handling and ESD avoidance procedures.
• Order capital equipment and parts for the lab.
• Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point to write the detail reports after completion of each assignment.
• Can take multi-task activities and adhere to schedules in a demanding environment.
• Knowledge of Matlab, and C language programming.
EXPERIENCES:
• ST Microelectronis, Inc. – San Jose, California.
Read/Write Application Engineer 08/2006 – 11/2008
• Involved in the chip bring up and evaluation of Read Channels in ST Microelectronics such as T90, Oahu, and Tiziano chips.
• Evaluated the Read Write channel devices, particularly on the Servo, Write and Read section.
• Worked closely with the designers to solve some bugs of the chip.
• Worked closely with the software engineer to generate and correct the functional and parametric tests of the chip.
• Support the customers to set up and test the read write evaluation IC on the bench.
• Evaluated the Servo channel particularly on the SAM Error Rate, Gray Code BER, Servo Demodulation (Burst SNR), RRO Bit Error Rate, SAM quality, Gray Code Quality…
• Evaluated the short and long term jitters of the servo and read clocks and compare the results with the specification.
• Connected the customer drive to the evaluation board, optimized the HPF cut off, LPF cutoff, boost, and FIR, then measure the SAM Error rate of the drive on all zones.
• Setup the write back to back on the bench for verifying the write and read functionality for all frequencies inside the range of data rate.
• Maxtor/Quantum Corporation – Milpitas, California
Jr. Read Write Engineer 04/2003 – 08/2006
• Failure analysis of the drives to investigate the root cause the failures, write the reports for corrective actions, followed the problems until solved. Some failure analysis involved to Noise (from head, media, preamplifier), Off track, Non Linear Transition Shift (NLTS), Off track, Poor Overwrite, Media Modulation, Read and Write Asymmetry, Drop in, Drop out, Thermal Asperity, Flying Height, Short and Long Term jitters of the synthesizers, Wrong equalization, Timing and Gain Loop Error, Head scratch, Contaminations, Board Layout, Spin up, etc …
• Evaluated the PRML Read – Write Channel of the Marvell, Agere, Texas Instruments, especially on the servo, write and read section. Helped the designers and the vendors to find bugs on the new features of the chips.
• Optimized the CTF cutoff, boost and the FIR coefficients of the channel with the captured waveforms from the real drive for obtaining the register default values per all zones. Assisted the drive teams to incorporate the register default values into the firmware code for early disk drive development.
• Verified and compared the performance of numerous Noise Predictive Target (NPT) of the read channel on the drives. Recorded the Bit Error Rate per each NPT target.
Sr. Engineering Technician 06/1989 – 04/2003
• Assist RW engineers to test and verify new features and new fixes of the read write chip.
• Layout, prototype, test, troubleshoot and isolate the problem of the complex analog and digital circuits.
• Document and maintain engineering records. Write detail ECO procedures, review BOM and other documentations for clarity before transferring to manufacturing.
• Help to verify, troubleshoot and provide technical guidance to manufacturing technicians.
• Order capital equipment and parts for the lab.
• Using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point to write the detail reports to the engineers after completion of each assignment.
• Verbatim/Kodak Corporation – Sunnyvale, California
Engineering Technician 08/1986 – 06/1989
• Worked in the servo engineering team to design the servo systems for the 3 ½ inches Magneto-Optic disk drive. Designed the lead-lag compensation and notch filter circuits for the tracking and focus servo loops. Measured and optimized the frequency response of the dynamic servo systems.
