Design Engineer Research and Development
California Side Car is a leading Trike Kit manufacturer for Harley, Honda, and custom-made motorcycles (choppers).
Helped senior engineer with design and development of new products.
Performed root cause analysis using CFD simulation results and resolved oil leak issues on Cobra gear cases hence saving thousands of dollars on recalls and warranty.
Performed numerous ECN’s after performing stack up studies to ensure proper fitment of parts in top level assemblies hence saving time and money spend in prep work before assembly.
Set up a process plan and assembly layout for the suspension assembly hence streamlining the whole assembly process.
Actively participated in the transition from AutoCad to Solidworks, created models and detailed Engineering prints from 2D Autocad prints.
Designed and developed trunk release system (Hinges, latch, and gas strut) for the Softail Trike.
Researched possibility for new materials and changed material for several injection molded parts.
Worked closely with various vendors to quote for new products
Actively participated in production meetings and engineering meetings.
June 2007- January 2008 Pontiac Coil (Clarkston, MI) [ City, State ]
Project Engineering Intern
Pontiac Coil is a tier 2 automotive supplier that manufactures electronic actuators for automotive applications.
Created detailed engineering drawings, BOM using AutoCad Inventor V11 and Catia V5.
Conducted packaging studies on the ongoing design concept to make it more feasible and functional and achieve design validation.
Performed Engineering calculations and documentation such as tolerance stack up studies and DFMEA using design tools and techniques such as GD&T, updating prints accordingly.
Ran FEA to determine failure modes and part behavior during various loading conditions using ANSYS 8.0
Determined magnetic strength of the part under various actuation conditions using - ANSOFT V11
Involved in ECN changes for Ford EPLS, T-1 btsi viz Ford and GM programs.
Prepared a preliminary DFMEA based on the concept design to ensure all the potential failure modes were captured and taken care of.
Built and tested two-piece pull ahead prototypes (AAM 226 Trac-rite actuator)
Performed various tests for other engineers in the department according to their DVP&R test plans. Testing included thermal shock, durability, strength, etc.
Worked with customer and suppliers to discuss various issues including, but not limited to, material selection, packaging issues, and also day-to-day progress of the project.
Resolved a noise issue on T1 EPLS (Electronic park lock solenoid used on Ford Explorer trucks) by modifying the armature and varying the spring stiffness to a stable value without hurting the coil-generated pull-in force and saving thousands dollars in recall from Delphi.
