Rapid Prototyping (RP) – A Tool for Product Development using Reverse Engineering

 This project was carried out as an in house project at Fr.C.R.I.T, Mumbai with some helpful contributions from APSOM INFOTEX LTD and PROTOSYS TECHNOLOGY PVT LTD.

 The product development approaches were started leading to the need of Rapid Prototyping in industries. The basic process involved, the .STL format description and the different RP techniques such as Stereolithography Laser Apparatus (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), 3D Printing and Fused Deposition Modeling were studied.

 The role of Reverse Engineering in RP was also studied. Finally two models were prepared, one using SLA technique and the other using Reverse Engineering technique at the two above mentioned industries.

Failure Analysis of Stainless Steel Spring

 This project was carried out for the graduate course of MEET 5150- Applications of Electron Microscopy and Failure Analysis in which a report for the causes of the failure of stainless steel spring of a relief valve were analyzed and recommendations were made to avoid such failures.

 In this project the failed part was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Electron Dispersive Spectrum (EDS) tests.

PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE:

 Served as a lecturer for Mechanical Engineering Department at Fr C.R.I.T, Mumbai for Engineering Mechanics and Manufacturing Planning & Control.

 Worked as a Research Assistant on Effects of Rebar Temperature, Water to Cement Ratio and Fly ash on Concrete Porosity for Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Pullout tests to evaluate the bonding strength of rebar and concrete, Water Impregnation tests to calculate the density of concrete samples and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry (MIP) tests to calculate the percentage porosity of different concrete samples were conducted for different water-cement ratios and varying temperature of rebars with and without fly ash. Scanning Electron Microscope Analysis was done to see the morphological features of samples.

 Completed a three month internship successfully for Weber Aircraft in which Lean Processing and Value Stream Mapping was incorporated in the R&D which helped in reducing wastes and optimized the flow process.

 Worked as a Teaching Assistant for Product Design and Development course in Engineering Systems Department, University of North Texas.

 Worked as a Research Assistant for the development of online courses that include the most features of the operation of Power Plants.
