Professional Experience:
PAC: Environmental Services
Environmental Specialist
August 2009-August 2010
As the sole engineer at PAC environmental I was responsible for all reporting to the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for sites under remediation and investigation by the Underground Storage Tank Division. In addition to this I also completed numerous other projects from time to time, and gave technical expertise where needed to assist other employees with their projects. My major accomplishments with this organization are detailed below.
•Authored Risk Assessment and Corrective Action Plans (RECAP) for three sites contaminated by releases from underground storage tanks (UST’s) utilizing Management Option One and Two and including enclosed structures.
•Composed Site Investigation Work Plans, CAP addendums, and semi-annual/annual reports for sites under remediation, as well as other reports for submission to the Underground Storage Tank Division of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ)
•Developed a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for a twenty acre ready mix concrete production facility. Including site investigation and research into the chemicals stored and utilized on site.
•Diagnosed and repaired dual-phase vacuum extraction units, which had been on site for several years, and were suffering the effects of age and use.
•Evaluated alternate remediation technologies including ozone sparging, phytoremediation, and constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment.
•Developed a plan to remediate a site contaminated with gasoline by ozone sparging, including evaluation of soil and groundwater for chemical and physical parameters to ensure effectiveness.
•Submitted over twenty five (25) asbestos inspection reports for the City of Monroe as part of the process necessary to remove blighted housing from the city.
•Assisted with the removal of three underground storage tanks. During this process I was primarily responsible for ensuring that an adequate supply of inert gas (carbon dioxide) was delivered to the underground storage tank, to ensure that the tank could be removed in a safe manner.
Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering,
Mississippi State University
Student Research Engineer
April 2009-August 2009
In my capacity as a student research engineer my two primary responsibilities were to assist my supervisor and mentor, as well as one of his graduate students with a project involving treatment of sanitary sewer waste water with algae. The algae would then be converted through a process and become a bio based diesel substitute. In addition this process would clean the wastewater such that it could be discharged. My other major responsibility was to repair and restore the undergraduate chemical engineering unit operations laboratory which had been neglected for many years.
•Designed and constructed a laboratory scale continuous flow bioreactor to treat wastewater with algae, the algae would then be utilized for conversion to biofuel.
•Diagnosed and repaired oxygen enriching by membrane separation unit which had not been operational for many years.
•Discovered and corrected a major flaw in a reaction kinetics experiment that had caused inconsistent and incorrect results for the previous several years.
•Assisted with a project to determine the minimum nutritional requirements necessary to produce algae for conversion to biodiesel.
•Constructed a small shell and tube heat exchanger from Lexan for demonstration as part of efforts to recruit students to major in chemical engineering at Mississippi State University.
•Assisted my supervisor, Dr. Bill Elmore P.E., with development of a process safety class for instruction at Mississippi State University.
