Litigation Practice
Responsible for own caseload, from inception through trial. Responsible for a wide range of personal injury litigation matters involving serious bodily injuries, including wrongful deaths, medical malpractice, nursing home litigation and legal malpractice. Handled all stages of litigation including drafting and editing of complaints, cross complaints, answers, affirmative defenses, discovery matters, summary judgment motions; and trial briefs. Insurance Defense Practice
Researched insurance coverage and reservation of rights issues; litigated same. Researched insurance carriers duty to defend and indemnify and insurer’s bad faith issues; draft pleadings, discovery motions, motions for summary judgment and declaratory actions. Conduct and respond to all forms of discover; including preparing case for trial, draft trial motions, trial briefs, prepare witnesses and exhibits for trial and trial of case.
Corporate/Transactional Practice
Counseled corporations on various federal statutes including: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967; the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ; the Equal Pay Act of 1963; the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA); and the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA). Counseled, corporations on Illinois laws as they affected their business including: Illinois Humans Right's Act, Illinois Worker's Compensation Act, Illinois’ Minimum Wage Law, and any number of state laws that impact on the health, safety and privacy of the employee.
Either directly or indirectly managed or litigated a diverse caseload including: class action defense, worker compensation matters, auto liability claims, bankruptcy claims, environmental litigation, EEOC and other HR related matters.
Advised managers on strategies for handling discipline/termination issues in a union and non-union shops.
