WORK EXPERIENCE
Christine Jacobs-Wagner Lab, Yale University New Haven, CT | September 2011 May 2012
Undergraduate Researcher.
Worked both independently and as part of a larger team of geneticists and microbiologists to elucidate medically and physiologically relevant, unstudied mechanisms of genetic control in pathological bacteria, 40+ hours/week in addition to full course load.
Used fluorescence microscopy techniques, aggregating and analyzing data using a Matlab-based software. As part of a team of computational biologists, created a new method for detecting and assessing microscope data using programming tools.
Project concluded with a department-wide presentation and a project report 25 pages in length +(figures) on the technical achievements of the fluorescence microscopy method as well as the physiological ramifications of the research. This project is currently being continued by a new postdoctoral fellow in the lab
Peabody Museum of Natural History, Zoology Department New Haven, CT| May 2010 August 2010
Curation Intern
Assisted in the complete recuration of the specimen collection of vertebrates, including reptiles, fish, and birds.
Along with a team of curators and museum coordinators, planned and executed the transition to computer records from paper listings using Filemaker Pro. Catalogued relevant data, reprocessed and restored thousands of vertebrate specimens of wide taxonomic variety, bringing curation of the collection up to modern computational and biochemical standards.
Whitney Humanities Center, Yale University New Haven, CT| February 2010 May 2012
Student Assistant to the Mellon, Hilles and Griswold Fellowship Committees
Independently as the only student associate to the Whitney processed and prepared applications for committee meetings regarding the Mellon, Hilles, and Griswold Grants for teaching fellowships, publication-related expenses, and research trips. Processed hundreds of applications each cycle (<1 week processing times) and presented data to the five-person committee of professors.
Acted as liaison, coordinating committee members, professors, publishers, and applicants regarding application status and decisions.
Harvard Medical School Cambridge, MA | June 2009-August 2009
Research Intern
Interned in Stephen Lory Lab in department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, 40+ hours/week.
Conducted genetic studies of antibiotic resistance and mechanisms of infection in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a cystic fibrosis pathogen. Used advanced techniques of genetic manipulation to elucidate these processes, and presented this data to the department.
Used the developed techniques to create comprehensive genetic libraries for use in genetic studies within the lab, which remain ongoing.
LEADERSHIP
Yale Varsity Sailing Team August 2008 May 2012
Treasurer; Recruiter; Team Member.
