Project - Assembly Tracking & Management System (BOEING - IDS)

ATMS is used by IDS as a shop-floor application to track and manage assembly activity for military airplanes. The system was commissioned in 1983 on a Unisys 2200 mainframe based Mapper platform right after implementation of Portable Perishable Tool System (‘PPTS’) on same technology. Initially the system was small but grew in size after the application was split for commercial and military airplanes and significant customizations that were done over the years to cater to unique factory floor processes for military airplanes. The system was serving the business well over the years but has lately been put at risk due to discontinued support from product vendors, specifically Unisys. The application was migrated to Mapper-C on Sequent NUMA-Q server in year 2000 resulting in significant maintenance cost savings; however Unisys has since dropped support of Mapper-C on Unix platform, thus creating a critical need for another migration for this mission critical system.
